How can they make changes on the rankings without an AAU weekend since early March?

Awesome, I've always wanted to be an insider!

Back quite awhile ago Lou Henson recruited a very skinny, front-court player who turned out O.K. I think it was around '81 when a freshman named Anthony Welch showed up on campus at something like 6'9" and about 170. That was one skinny ball player.

Is this a last minute flyer trying to fill Kofi's spot if he's gone? A sign that Hamlin is leaving? Or do we just have an extra scholarship? If both Ayo and Kofi we're back we'd be full right? I know conventional wisdom has Ayo most likely gone, but offers like this seem like a stronger confirmation.

We have 3 open spots if Ayo and Kofi leave. So even if they both come back we have a scholarship to give.

Was Tisdale lighter than Nick Smith?
Not sure, I thought of him as well and the first reference said 7’ 2” - 250, but I think that was leaving. Maybe a roster would list weight, I’m sure it is out there somewhere.

He was listed at 240 as a frosh on the roster.

We just may be missing out on tchikou...
So that is who the rumors were about...that’s rough, he would be a phenomenal addition. I’m guessing he has eyes elsewhere? We would have another roster spot when/if Ayo leaves

I'm assuming that we got Lieb because Tchikou was looking elsewhere, and not the other way around?

Also possible he decided he didn't want to reclass at all like Foster. Hopefully we can get one of Tchikou, Ettinine(sp) or Kapaneng in this or next years class. Taking a Lieb commitment makes me skeptical it happens this class unless Kofi leaves (knocking on wood that doesnt' happen obvi).

O.K., so this was back in the day, but I believe that around '81 or so, a freshman named Anthony Welch showed up on campus around 6' 9" and 170. No, he wasn't a center, but still he was far from a beefy player.
James Griffin too -- who entered school in 1978. He was a center from Texas --- 6'10 and under 200 lbs. He was a big contributor on the Eddie Johnson team that beat MSU/Magic a year later.

Griff, Nick Smith and Tisdale are all great Lieb comparisons. Griff didn't have the outside range, however.

Ice, Ice Baby,...so I was at westside tap which my softball buds and I coded for Bullet...and I ran into a player I had seen play with Anthony...I asked how the park district squad was doing and he said no team...so I asked him to play with us...he asked if his roomate Anthony Welch could play...duh...gee whiz...ok...One championship later and ...boom many more stories from that season and a few free dances to boot. Win, win, win on the chin. Ice's roomate played at Southeast Misssouri, point guard from div 2, Todd Anderson from Bradley so like loaded like the teams I used to play AGAINST. But Anthony was teacher prepping so he didn't always make start time...but when he showed up...the air went out of room as in game over...great guy. Still owe him a coat. haha...sorry...for the book...not sorry ...I...L...L... next chapter Derek Harper's dad lol.
