Cerney and Bonner are understandable, but still hurt. A little surprised Smalling would be out academically as a senior. How does that happen?!

For the state of Illinois and CDC, if you are within 6 ft of a positive case for more than 15 min with or without a mask at any time 2 days before the positive case had symptoms and up until their isolation you are asked to quarantine. I do not think this is going to change anytime soon. I am very curious how this is all going to play out. My vote is the season will start, schools will have major outbreaks and the season will be canceled or delayed until a later date.

My guess is that only the SEC and maybe ACC actually try to play, and with disastrous consequences. Until there is an effective and AVAILABLE vaccine, this is all a craps shoot for college kids. High school too, by the way.

So are the scholarships open, seems slim we could find 3 significant transfers at this point, but with all the craziness it wouldn’t surprise me either.

The UIL, the governing body for Texas, arguably the most football crazy state, announced last week that small schools would operate under the regularly planned football schedule. Big schools can start practice 9/7 and will still play 10 games.

the hope is to get some games in before everything goes to !!!!.

Schools are under pressure to have in person classes, that will work until covid spread is affecting the faculty. I’m guessing, in a state like Texas by October. The Midwest college towns are in better shape, they are hoping to make it to November. Semesters end by thanksgiving.

Oklahoma football had all those positive cases and now it is quiet. It will be interesting to see how things play out in Florida and Texas. Maybe it’s quiet there by September. Nobody really knows how this all plays out but young people everywhere are past quarantined life.

Good idea and plan.
Also mentioned Kansas now playing SIU. But ILL vs ISU can’t happen; this is going to be one of the weirdest cancellations ever.

Bonner’s reasons for not playing are probably the most well informed I’ve seen for this.

1. He doesn’t want to get sick in part because he has asthma
2. He doesn’t want to get others sick
3. He doesn’t want to only play part of a senior season only to have it cancelled
4. He doesn’t want to play part of a season, get sick, and then not be able to play a chunk of his senior year.

NCAA actually releasing guidelines on how they will deal with eligibility would sure be helpful.

At least there is a positive quote re: Whitman

“Some players are afraid to speak up,” he said. “I know that not everyone is blessed to have the type of AD I have. He’s made it abundantly clear from the start: ‘If you don’t feel comfortable, your scholarship is protected.’ I’m not so sure it’s like that at other schools. I’m at peace with my decision.”

That quote is so cool. We are the anti Iowa and for the first time in a while that's a good thing.

One of those guidelines if the season does happen, is those who opt to sit out with a pre-existing condition should be given a medical redshirt.

This is a quote from Bonner:
Bonner said he’s “very, very hopeful” he will play again as a fifth-year senior in 2021, though he said Illinois’ obligation to honor his scholarship is only for this year.
