The entertainment options at the 'Ville have changed drastically....

Louisville just kicked 3 soccer players off the team for having a party off campus. Their AD said “it was not becoming of Louisville athletics”. Really? That’s hilarious. Where was that manual for Petrino‘s motorcycle parade and Pitino’s restaurant yoga class? The selective integrity is an area in which they really excel.

I am not sure you can call it hypocritical at this point in time. It could also be an attempt to clean up and move forward. The test will be how they react when the basketball program does something stupid again. If it's not the same as the more strict approach with which they've handled other sports recently, then it's hypocrisy. If it's the same, then it's growth.

I’ll believe it when I see it. In a major sport - not cleaning up the soccer team.

I never said they were for sure cleaning up. I just said it was premature to draw conclusions.

Ranking the Contenders: Jordan Nesbitt

2. ILLINOIS
Nesbitt has also been on campus at Illinois and he is the type of versatile wing who fits the physical profile of what Brad Underwood wants in a player. Nesbitt was impressed when he was on campus and the Illini fan base has made a major impression on him. Guards like Trent Frazier, Da’Monte Williams and presumably Ayo Dosunmu will be gone, so there are some minutes on the perimeter. But the Illini also have returning wing players and a commitment from
Luke Goode.

They have SLU as #1!

No way...can't be. Anyone who thought SLU led for Nesbitt is crazy I though?? Not possible.

Frank Cusumano, a sports guy in stl who a shill for SLU and mizzery, is convinced Nesbitt is headed to SLU.

I live on the St. Louis area, so I unlike a lot of guys on here I see why some kids choose SLU. I won't bore everyone with the positive things I see with SLU.

That said, does anyone know why he is leaning toward SLU so much. From what I read early in the process it seemed like if Illinois had pushed he would have jumped on board. Are we going after bigger fish, did he not fit what we wanted to run, did SLU push, or is it just a general change of his recruitment?

Oh and even though he's a St. Louis legend, listening to Cusumano fawn over SLU and Mizzou every time he talks about them makes me want to vomit.

See four open scholarships next year (DaMonte, Trent, Ayo, and Kofi). Not sure what their priority is or which choices are possible. Guessing that the practical choices are Etienne, Jones, and Weston in addition to Goode. Love to have Foster and Hardy but guessing not likely. Just hoping they have choices and maybe there are some of their offers not open to acceptance. Don’t have insider knowledge, just guessing on my part.

Nesbitt is an Illini slow play, as are many others due to the lack of AAU evaluations. He is using SLU as his safety school.
Ok, but are you saying that the staff is in need of further evaluation of his game or is there someone else ahead (Jones for example) in their eyes?

Really tough for me to determine who is the prime target. Kind of assumed it was a center as Kofi would be gone. However do not see any young Kofi’s in the mix. Besides we have a lot of pieces in Giorgi, BBV, Jermaine, Coleman, and Lieb that as fans we don’t know how good they are or will be in a year as a combination of the 4/5. Same deal with the wings with Hutch, Grandy, and Goode coming. Probably need some depth but don’t think we are hurting there. At the point we will lose Ayo and Trent but have Adam and Belo with maybe Hutch as a backup and don’t see any PG’s mentioned as prime targets. Seems like we can roll the dice as we aren’t going to have any real weakness unless it is depth. Assume the coaches have a clearer picture but probably still have questions as well at this point.

See I just do not by that. Maybe you are right. I have no way of knowing, but I really struggle to believe that staff would slow play someone like Nesbitt. You have been right about a lot and I do not have much reason to doubt you, but idk about this one.

I do get the feeling that the staff really likes Jones a lot, but could be wrong. Zero inside info here.

What are the positive things you see at SLU?
I've been a SLU fan for years. They're my (distant) second favorite team. I'm no insider, but I think they've got a compelling story to tell. Good coach. They've got a good team coming back - they guard like hell and play physical with smaller players. They compete. They added okoro. They've won 20+ games in recent years. A great new(ish) facility - that's really fun place to see a game - even tho the crowd is REALLY old - but the crowd is full of a loyal alumni network with lotsa money for life after BB. I can't imagine a kid choosing SLU over Illinois - the level of competition and the game environment/crowd isn't even close. The only thing is a local kid wanting to be "the guy" in a big city that feels very much like a small town could be attracted to SLU.

But the main reason is the mascot.
