I'm thinking we will see multiple starting line-ups and playing time dictated by matchups, particularly on D. If these team has the chemistry, it will go far.
Any word on what happened with the Connor Serven situation? I thought that he had previously committed as a walk-on also but I haven't seen his name on the roster nor any recent news regarding him.
How many championship teams can you name on any level that have altered their starting lineups based on match-ups?
He was mentioned in the 247 article on Padilla coming on. Read it quickly but seemed like both were on campus.Any word on what happened with the Connor Serven situation? The 2004-5 team had jelled the year before and returned everyone, so barring injury, you knew who the starting 5 were.2004-2005 team started the same 5 for all 39 games.
BU is a good coach and good coaches will play the best players regardless of class. All things being equal he may and likely will play TF and DMW for that matter but if incoming players are better they will play. Good coaches play the best players that earn P T regardless of class. To do otherwise is like a little league coach playing his kid over the neighbors clearly more talented kid! BU wont do that. The best player that earns the time will play.
I understand what you are saying however if someone is clearly better BU will start them regardless of class. If we had had a senior last year at center last season Kofi still would have jumped him if he were better which would likely would be the case. If a possible All B10 type of talent type comes in and proves himself as in past Illinois history then BU will start them and give them more tick. Coaches have seniors on there rosters that may never even hardly play. It's about what they can do as players not what class they are. Seniority only matters if all other factors are equal to good coaches. I've been to several Senior day games overvthe years and there are many seniors that never started a game. It's not about class at all but ability and how well you play under stress. Some may be Seniors but others may not It doesnt come into why they may start or play more. It's about performing better than others do so we have a better chance to win. That's why and underclassmen Ayo took over end of game shots instead of Junior TF last year. It's the same comcept.Playing and starting are two different issues. Both of the frosh guards will get starters minutes, but 5 other guys may also get those type of minutes.
I don't follow the NBA so I can't comment on how that works in professional basketball, but MLB teams obviously alter lineups based on match-ups (e.g. with pitchers) and that extends to championship teams. NFL teams change their schemes based on match-ups which sometimes but not usually involves personnel changes. NHL teams frequently reshuffle their lines based on match-ups.
It's not as uncommon as you seem to think.
Relationship between Padilla family, Curbelo family, and OA explains a lot.

"Padilla and fellow walk-on Connor Serven, who went to St. Rita in Chicago, moved to campus earlier this month and they have joined their teammates in team activities. "
Same article alaskaillini found, above.
Great point TC. Such an amazing year and an incredible factoid. I'm a Yankee fan and they get hurt staring at the playing field.2004-2005 team started the same 5 for all 39 games.

It seems that most years, we think that we will go 9-10 deep, and end up at 8. However, this year, I have difficulty seeing how we don't really have 10 in the rotation. At least 8+ minutes/game.If this coaching staff can create and sell the attitude that starting isn't that big of a deal, playing meaningful minutes is, I would expect BU to go with a starting 5 of veteran upper classmen (unless someone is struggling mightily)....in which case you insert one of the newcomers. With the talent and flexibility on this squad i would expect multiple combinations of 5 on the floor throughout the game depending on match ups and individual player strengths....playing possibly 9-10 different people meaningful minutes is a real possibility this year. Starting the veteran players that have been with the program, putting in the time and effort staying the course sends a message to others that hard work and loyalty will not go unnoticed....thats not to say a starter will automatically play 25-30 minutes...in fact I could see a veteran starting and getting maybe 15-20 minutes of playing time and someone coming in off the bench getting 20-25 minutes.
The 2005 team ended up losing Brian Randle early in the year, and he would likely have been the 6th man. Other than the starting 5 and Randle, the team used Nick Smith, who just didn't work well within the team or the scheme, Jack Ingram, who admittedly had a great NCAA tournament, and Rich McBride, who was barely a factor when on the floor. Warren Carter was also on the roster, but didn't play a whole lot until the games were blowouts.I always remember thinking in my younger years that our 2005 team was so good and not especially deep, and this was probably why (I was in seventh grade during our run). Additionally, the exponential dropoff in success over the next three years probably reinforced that idea (i.e., once those starters had all left ... look where we were). However, with time I have really come to appreciate the athletes and playmakers we had sitting on that bench and how essential they were to our magical run that year, with Ingram being an obvious one.
Exactly. You always have to figure on some injuries, suspensions, redshirts and departures. I'd love to see ten guys play double digit minutes but I'll believe it when I see it.It seems that most years, we think that we will go 9-10 deep, and end up at 8.
