English Premier League 2020-2021

Mourinho was already complaining this week about the fixture schedule that Spurs has to deal with opening the season. Between Premier League, Europa League, and the Carabao Cup, they'll play 9 matches in 22 days that starts today vs. Everton before the first international break in early October.

Everton with a quality win 0:1 at Spurs. Calvert-Lewin with the lone goal in the 2nd half. First Everton win over Spurs since David Moyes was in charge. First time Spurs has lost their season opener since 2015.

Everton looked good. And I think will only look better as James gels with Richarlison and DCL. Doucoure looked good in midfield. Wouldn't be surprised to see them fighting for a top 4 spot late in the season.

And Spurs seems to be missing the creativity in midfield. Winks is solid but maybe not good enough. And Ali is great at times but other times disappears.

I'll admit I was only half paying attention for most of the match (mostly due to watching/listening to NFL related stuff) but I was impressed with what I saw. It easily could have been 0:2 or 0:3 based on some of the chances Richarlison got. I'd pump the brakes on them being a potential top 4 side after one match. If they continue to trend in this positive direction the remainder of the season, I wouldn't be suprised if they're at least competing for a European spot by the end of the year.

Jesus’s last second goal against Wolves set the record for most goals in a single match day in Prem history (since they’ve moved to 20 teams). Soccer is so boring though!

Thoughts on what is a handball nowadays?

The new handball rule is ruining the game. Andy Carroll came on late in the Tottenham vs New Castle match and was purposely heading the ball at defenders arms in the box. The entire team would shout for a penalty on each attack and they were finally awarded one in late stoppage time. Prior to the converted penalty, they did not have one shot on goal. It was / is ridiculous.

Everton defeats Brighton & Hove Albion 4:2 today. First time for the Toffees have won their first 4 matches in a Premier League season and the first time they've done it in any season since the 1969-70 season when they were playing in the then Football League First Division. Everton side that season ended up winning their 7th league title.

Tomorrow is 10 years to the day of Everton's last win in the Merseyside derby, also at Goodison Park where tomorrow's match will be held.

And with the Premier League's scheduling, it's an early kickoff here in the states of 6:30 AM CT.

I wouldn't blame Liverpool supporters if they were upset with today's result in the 2:2 Merseyside derby draw as Pickford likely should have been red carded for a challenge on Van Dijk early on and then a VAR reveral to an offside of what appeared to be a good goal by Liverpool late.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced today that when the UK ends its national lockdown on December 2nd, fans will be allowed to return to sporting events, both indoors and outdoors, so long as they are within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 region. If they are within a Tier 1 region, a maximum of 4,000 fans will be allowed. If they are within a Tier 2 region, a maximum of 2,000 fans will be allowed. If they are within a Tier 3 region, fans will not be permitted to attend games. The tiered regions will be announced in the UK on Thursday.

Based on some of the reporting from the UK I've read, the only two Premier League clubs that fall under the Tier 1 restrictions are Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton.
