All crystal balls to Kentucky. Are we really in it?
UK was pushing for a quick answer after he decommitted. The longer this plays out the better our chances. UK may make a play for other fish.

Yes.

Believe I addressed this in a post a while back but Cal expected a swift commitment after he de-committed from Louisville. It didn't happen.

Hopkins said, "Let me come visit campus." He came to campus and still didn't give the verbal. Cal was not happy about that, to say the least.

We've got a better shot than people think, and from what I have been told the longer this drags out, our odds only keep increasing.

Trying to recall if we've ever won a recruiting battle with Kentucky. (Seldom are we competing for the same kids, I realize. I can only think of players we lost.)
My memory is a little foggy but as I recall, Henson and Eddie Sutton were in a fierce recruiting battle for Olaf Blab. Blab teamed with Douglas and Winters, taking us all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. :)

If We get Hopkins it will be interesting to see the changes in our systems assuming Kofi leaves. We will have a lot of size with Giorgi, Lieb, Cole, BBV, Jermaine, (Maybe MAC), and Hopkins. Much different from Kofi on both offense and defense but suspect it is favored size with BU as they include shooters. Backcourt with Hutch, Grandison and Goode also has some size and shooting ability. Can’t remember an Illini team with this kind of size and shooters (at least I think they can shoot). Current NBA style players with a couple of PG’s in Curbelo and Adam. Tough to defend and long on defense.

Kofi's unique, that's for sure. I could sing his praises for days. What a beast to come in as a 300+ pudgy freshman and make such an amazing transformation. His improvements in mobility, strength, etc., were studly astounding. His timing on opponents drives, and reads on defense were really solid --great instincts. Gifted rebounder. And although he didn't make a lot of plays either as cutter or passing, I think he was pretty solid handling the ball when set up near the FT line. I think he'll surprise us a little this year with passing --that's one thing I think he's got an opportunity to improve. While I give him an A+ overall, I think he forced his post play to his detriment at times, and it showed when we faced top-tier opposing bigs.

Elite bigs are hard to come by, and Kofi is BIG. Not likely to see another player like him anytime soon, if ever.

Hey, don’t forget Nesbitt is on this team and that he can shoot it pretty well too. =]

OH stop it TC. lol. I have not saw Nesbitt play live, but I have seen plenty of video. I have saw Weston live a lot. Weston is a junkyard dog, Nesbitt is a dog period. That's why Nesbitt is my favorite recruit.

Nesbitt is a dog period.

I don't want him in the B10 if he's not wearing O&B.
I want the B1G to always be the best conference in the country. It puzzles me that so many on this site say that the athletes shouldn't be concerned with competition but, many on this board don't want the best football or basketball players going to opposing B1G schools.

If anyone has it, please share the link of Tate saying Nesbitt is a lock. I have yet to find it

I will concede the fact that Olaf played at Illinois for 2 years after his older (more talented) brother bolted for Indiana. And I guess it's possible that Eddie Sutton wanted Olaf.

On the flip side, however, it's too bad KY didn't win that battle. OR MAYBE THEY ACTUALLY DID! I believe Olaf averaged just under 1 point per game in two years with the Illini and didn't play much of a role in our long string of NCAA tourney appearances in the 1980's.

Going back even a little further, Jay Shidler and Chuck Verderber both shunned Illinois for the Wildcats.
