Wow what a crazy match up that would be definitely jumping right into the deep end with our new found top 10 team.
That would be a great litmus test for sure. Shades of the Wake Forest game in 2004.

Williams averaged nearly 22 mpg last year and the year before. He got nearly 17 mpg as a frosh. I can't see him dropping to fewer than 10 this season.
I dont think DMWs minutes will drop below 10 this season. However if we are to improve something will change. Last years teams biggest weakness was perimeter shooting. Being a strong shooting team can really help space the floor and make this years team among the best in the nation. Imo this has to occur for us to take that step. Some players from last year can improve some but the biggest impact is likely to come from a new player or players stepping into the shooter role vacated by griffins departure. In order for AM and AH to play the type of minutes I ex pect them to because they will likely be our best shooters and will add more length and athleticism then some other will certainly lose playing time to address those shooting issues and improve our athleticism on the floor. It is what it is and we need to and will shoot it better with them on the floor. I expect bitg of them to play starters minutes much like griff did whether they start or not so we can shoot like we need to in 2020-21

I agree DMW probably sees some minutes reduction but it will probably be minor. Some of the minutes for Miller, Curbelo, Hutch, and Grandison are going to be the minutes that were going to Feliz, Griffin and Kipper. Those 3 combined for approx 59 min. I'd also note that improvements in perimeter shooting from Trent and Ayo (who really needs to improve this aspect of his game for NBA draft purposes) would go a long way to helping us out, and DMW was improving in that area as well last season. Hopefully it's been something he's continued to work on because that would go a long way to advancing his game.

I hope they improve too. If reports are accurate and AM and AH are our best shooters and our most athletic players I just think the will both be among the top 6 in minutes played whether they start or not. The others can improve some but I dont think they will shoot like those two are likely too. Plus AH shot FTs at 89% so how can he not be on the floor down the stretch in close games. I think he iand AM are being undervalued compared to some more familiar faces we have seen shoot the ball the last couple years. They all have a role but to be a top 10 team we cant shoot it at 29% from three and those two seem to be the most likely to address that need even if others can help a little bit too. I just expect AH and AM to be around the 40% mark or better.if they are how can they both not play a lot of minutes so we are a better shooting team? It just seems to be the most likely to me for the team to shoot and have better spacing on offense

I was thinking that 40% might be a tall order for a Frosh, so I checked the stats and there were only two freshmen in the top 50 for 3pt field goal % last year -- Spencer Jones at Stanford (#13/43.1%) and Kamdyn Curfman at VMI (#47/38%). The list is very Jr. and Sr. heavy.

I realize that but AM may be the best shooter in the class. AH has shot it very well although at DIII and shot 44% as a frosh..i just love his high arcing soft shot. They are also very athletic and even if it isnt quite 40% he should still be one of our best shooters compared to last years guys that are returning.

I'm going to ditch my skepticism and have some of what you're having. I'm excited to see what those two will do. This team has so many more pieces than we're used to.

Special season coming up. Lot of history yet to be written, and it's exciting to know they're well prepared, but going into the unknown. Going be easy to root for these guys.

Gotta give a shout out to Trent. What an amazing young man that's built up the culture, and lifted up others. His impact will be felt for many years. I hope I get an opportunity to get in the stands before the season is over and give a shout out in person!

Yes!
It will never be stated enough, or probably really recognized by most of Illini Nation, just how important Trent and DMFW have been to this program rebuild.
To be all in through these last four years, when there was a lot of all out, deserves very special recognition. These guys deserve a special Senior Night.
I hope we send them off with banners in the rafters!

Thank you Trent and 'Monte!

BU says he has 4 front line players out. Assume that is front court but who besides BBV who has already been mentioned?

Tyrell Terry should be on that list too. 40.8% as a freshman at Stanford.

It's not like we are super deep in the post. BBV, Lieb, Hamlin, Kofi, Giogi, Preferred walk-on guy...maybe all those guys except Kofi and Giorgi...since none of them are exactly news-worthy guys except maybe BBV.
