does lovie even get the top recruits out of illinois?? thats a must!! with one of the biggest cities in chicago, there has to be alot of 4 and 5 star players! if lovie could just get half of those we would be NASTY!!!
I believe it was zero IL players for 2020 and 3 for 2021 assuming they stick. 14th in the BIG last year, and currently 13th this year. He's just not a recruiter. Period!

What happened to all the "Guys will come here because Lovie will get them to the NFL talk"?

I did not think the hire would work out but I was fully supporting Lovie. The win last year against Wisconsin was a turning point , I thought

I agree, I wasn't thrilled with his hire when it happened. However as a huge Illini fan I backed him 100% and gave him the benefit of the doubt. It just hasn't panned out the way we all hoped it would.

I thought that Lovie would bring in strong recruiting classes. Other than hiring the high school coach of a some of our higher recruits, recruiting has been a huge disappointment.

We're probably not going to find a coach that is excellent in-game, at player development, and at recruiting. I get it. Those are few and far between. And we're far from an attractive destination. But is it so hard to find a coach that is excellent at only one of those things and passable at the other two? Or merely above average at all three?

I'm considering the possibility that my expectations need to be recalibrated, because we have had so many coaching disappointments as a program already. From my perspective, we're miles away from being even consistently competitive. It's depressing.

If you were a 4/5 ⭐ recruit and could choose between your home state university that has not put a back to back top-ten B10, let alone nationally ranked team on the field in your lifetime, would you want to go there? Take the orange and blue love out of your heart and answer it? Especially one that plays a BOOOOORING style of football!

Whereas, you could go play in the big house, tOSU, Wisky, Iowa, or any other school of similar nature that has 80,000 - 110,000 screaming fans every Saturday (in a typical year), stacking the All B10 teams, NFL rosters, and a lifetime legacy. Where would you go?

The start is to get some fun, air raid style offense in here. Get the fanbase back in the stands to go see something fun! I gave up my season tix a few years ago because it was just boring in the stadium. Tailgatin' was the only part that was even remotely fun.

New life is needed!! Fast, fun, some trickery, make kids in HS say "I wanna do that...that looks like fun!"

I've always thought the same thing. For a school that prides itself on innovation, why aren't we innovating within the game? I know it's easier said than done, but physical football seems to be a thing of the past - giving way to game planning, coordination, formations, etc.

I've gotten to the point where hard hits just don't look to be the right thing anymore, when you realize someone is probably getting hurt. But football is the best game of athleticism and strategy when done well.

If our new Med School is leveraging the engineering strengths of our great institution, why can't our football team?

Being good at one of those three would be better than Lovie. He’s maybe ok at player development, but I’m struggling to say that with confidence. He’s a mediocre coach overall.

I thought Illinois had a really good opportunity to recruit the state this year. No HS football. Get out and talk to coaches, find out who is being overlooked because of no football. Instead they took a bunch of recruits early that are track athletes from other states.
Really should have changed the approach for the 2021 and 2022 classes.
teams are going to go after recruits where football being played now. Too much competition.
Also think staff is too concerned on how many scholarship players will be here in future. Worry about that bridge when you have to cross. NCAA will adjust if Alabama/Clemson etc push for relaxed limits.

The state of Illinois is not a priority for this staff. The number of recruits match the effort of this staff. The staff does a decent job at landing the guys they actually want.

They need to want a lot more. I've been so disappointed in the recruiting results. Remember last year after our little run, there was a lot of buzz on the recruiting trail. And we landed basically none of the guys we targeted at that time. I'm still relishing Saturday's game, but long term I'm no more optimistic that I was 2 weeks ago.

So Moffitt committed to Appalachian State. I suppose now the question is did he decommit from a Big10 school to go play in the Sun Belt or did Illinois seek to move on for whatever reason?

Recruiting is so limited in 2020 that there is not much one can do to improve one's situation. The "Illinois" name doesn't mean much to most of these kids and that is basically what they are using to recruit with, in these times. I guarantee that everyone else is using the same methods and so name recognition becomes more prominent.

13th in the Big Ten, 69th nationally, and 57th of 65 power five schools. Clustered around Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Monroe, Boise State and Toledo.

Measuring recruiting is certainly not an exact science, but at a macro level it's a pretty good barometer of where you stand.

Lovie and staff better have a big shopping cart ready for the transfer portal.
