And the NCAA folks need a sacrificial lamb. Gotta look like you're doing something to earn those compliance salaries.

Yeah, lotta hardship from the situation. I admire guys who dig in and deal with adversity though. I'm happy with the roster as it stands, but having a leader like Ayo back would take us up another notch or two. Pinch me in a couple months --this seems a bit unreal.

Yeah, but if you go back 5 seasons, he finished one spot above last. I think they're hoping he can find the magic again.

IMO '89 was more talented and a stronger team overall. The BIG was a physical conference and loaded with excellent teams. I forget the injuries that year, but someone was down for a number of games after we hit #1 in the polls (I was at the Georgia Tech game when we came back to win that one...

    2020 NBA Draft

Seems to me our interest in bigs could change if Kofi stays in the draft.

When you're on the upswing, it's a lot easier to look back with some perspective. It's certainly more fun.

The NCAA doesn't have much power, BUT, as weak as they've been, they do have things of value --like the record books. Vacating Louisville's NC was pretty serious. And they should also have the power of post-season bans, and sanctions on the coach. I wouldn't bet on them looking the other way in...

It all comes down to performance on the court; I think everyone understands that. However, when you look at the turn-around I still think there's no comparison. Last year we struggled early with some of the changes, and finished strong, just one game out of a share of the BIG title in a very...

And that's how the powers that be want it. Offload the rule-breaking to those who are expendable, but tacitly let them know it's ok as long as you don't get caught embarrassing us. Speaking of how money and winning trumps all: Pitino hired by Iona I'm impressed with the lengths Pitino will go...

Fighting Illini Basketball Scholarship Grid 2019-2020

Suggestion - Instead of open on Ayo/Kofi, maybe "Open (Contingent)" or "Open (NBA Draft)" would be more accurate, given the scollie is dependent on them staying in the draft beyond the June 3 withdrawal deadline.

    Illini Basketball 2020-2021

I remember when HRF was here. Dick Vitale said we could pull all 5 starters and still have a top-25 team, and I'm not sure it was hyperbole. We routinely went 9-10 deep. Way too many weapons for most teams. It's hard to say what the team will look like given we could lose 2 guys to the pros...

    NCAA Name, Image, Likeness Rule

This thinking is, IMHO, so antiquated that it doesn't deserve a response. It reads like someone believes that the 1900s views on amatuerism should apply to the multi-billion dollar industry of college sports of 2020, and that exploiting that amateur labor is the God given right of those bastions...

Kofi Cockburn declares for NBA Draft

I'm not sure whether we're arguing about his draft position, the BIG being unknown to outsiders, or that GMs are more data driven in the modern NBA. For the record, my answers are: Late 2nd round (for reference, Dee was taken mid-2nd round) Very well known to NBA scouts Yes, data and moneyball...

Kofi Cockburn declares for NBA Draft

Nonsense. Every scout, at every NBA franchise, knows who's available, who they're most likely to have a shot at, etc. They have a ton of quantitative and qualitative data they're sorting through. Ayo's shown the ability to drive at an elite level, play in transition, and be THE MAN, but he has...
