I hated our defensive scheme last year because we gave up so many layups. But now when opponents try to backdoor us Kofi will be waiting for them. It might actually work this year. And the Kofi/Giorgi high-low game had me thinking Self was back on the bench. Loved it.
Once it was shown that we were giving up too many layups/dunks, we should have made an adjustment. Some zone or at the very least, keep Giorgi in the paint, not trapping at the top of the key. What we were doing was not working.
Can someone please explain our defensive strategy? It appears to be, collapse to the ball when it enters the paint and leave your man open for the dunk. Over and over again.
I watched the longer replay a few times. Leron didn't do anything malicious. You see he's making a straight line towards the basket from midcourt while the Wake player does a spin and turn right into him. Not a dirty play at all IMO.

Remember there are two other coaches on staff (Ford/Parham) so think about how disrespectful that would appear to them and how awkward it would be for Walker if you only told him he was retained. Let them coach out the season together with some grace.
Last time around I was crazy excited about the possibility of Shaka or Brad Stevens. But when those fell through there seemed to be a significant drop off in coaching talent and Groce felt like a consolation prize. This time around none of the coaches get me that excited but the talent pool...
