Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (June 2019)

He was basically the best that Mike Thomas could land - which is more of an indictment on MT. I don’t blame John Groce for aiming high - he really thought he could do a great job, bless his heart.

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2018)

Yeah. My point was that we were “too involved”. Which is an odd thought nowadays. But, winning solves these issues. As much as we want to think Krush was rabid in the early 2000s, we actually had to call and personally recruit members in 2002-2003 to fill the floor seats. That was the year...

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2018)

Krush got cited for Illegal (targeted) recruiting during the Livingston, Tyler Hansbrough, and David Palmer recruiting visits. We were essentially going too far over the top for these kids. We would surround the courts during practices, post signs over the entire campus, and station people...

    The new basketball uniforms

The trend with Nike's uniforms seems to be going minimalist - The players are rolling up the shorts - less baggy and tighter fits. I would imagine that when we move forward, it will be along these lines. Tighter fits, shorter shorts, basic colors, less stylized. I am good with that as...

    FBI College Basketball Corruption Investigation

Good comment on Bilas. I really like him as an analyst - but someone who has made his money from the NCAA and College Basketball - he is feeding off the animal that he is so "high and mighty" in criticizing. It's growing weary.

    Illinois 91, Rutgers 60 POSTGAME

Yeah, we have to go 8-0. At 20-11 (10-8), we would look favorable with road wins at OSU, MSU, and Purdue at home. Then have a favorable showing in the tournament. Nobody is thinking about Illinois right now. We have a terrible resume. Think, we only have 3 top 150 wins at the moment...

    Illinois 91, Rutgers 60 POSTGAME

A few other things that I caught... DaMonte is Frank's son, and pretty sure Jalen Brunson plays for Illinois.

Meh, he’s got a ton of money in the bank and he signed up for a challenge. This is what he wanted.

    State Farm Center Renovation

I notice that this area is exactly the same this year as in previous years. If anyone has connections at the State Farm Center or with DIA - can you just request that they find a way to cover these seats up? I know they are folded in for expansion for other events, but they look terrible...

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2017)

I was just using academics as comparison - I'm not claiming it to be relevant in THTs case. Things aren't always ideal when life decisions are made at 17 - and we take a path and move on, learning and growing along the way. We did have a chance to stiff the recruiting scene, but none of us...

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2017)

Reality kind of sucks. Kids don't get to go to their preferred school all the time - for lots of reasons. This isn't just basketball, but kids trying to get into their dream school and academic program. Cost, logistics, denied admissions, etc. Maybe THT really wanted to go to East Lansing...

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2017)

We have been wanting to actively recruit the Chicago programs for years. In that circle, there are egos and demands. There is no getting around it. This time it is on the coaches - but next time it'll be the players, or families, or a struggle with admissions... Getting the best players...

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (October 2017)

That was such a strange scenario. I was close to the Bball program during that recruitment, and Weber and his brother went out of their way not to use those built-in advantages. They didn't want it to seem like they were doing anything underhanded or get accused of violations. Because of...

University of Illinois consolidates to single logo

Anyone notice that although the blue is the same for both athletics and academics, the academic branding has chosen a different orange? Athletics = #e04e39 Academics = #E84A27 I'm not surprised, the new Nike athletic orange was significantly different than I have ever known us to use.

I've been there. I made a huge blunder on a marketing presentation and the CEO called me on it during the meeting. Just an aweful feeling. I hate it for the person that put this together - assuming they care.

    Illinois Football Performance Center

I don't care about architecture based on the historic campus or stadium. There is tons of variety around campus marking the passage of time and style. Glass overlooking the practice field and columns is damn cool to me. The West side renovations show that can be done well. My only concern is...

    Illinois Football Performance Center

The south wasn't the only other option. They are putting a parking lot on the east side of the indoor facility - why not utilize that area vertically?. Look at how they surrounded and enclosed the armory. That could have been done at Irwin. Extend over into IMPE and let IMPE expand more to...

    Illinois Football Performance Center

I can't believe that they are going to build this in front of the stadium. Of all the area around MS, the view of the stadium and columns shouldn't be further obstructed. Just a strange decision in my opinion.
