    2019 NBA Draft

Agreed. He's a first round pick, likely next year. I really hope he doesn't make the jump this year. But all it takes is one team saying they'll take him or give him a long look and he could decide that's enough.

GEE SUS Kofi is a monster of a teenager.

This is true, and definitely the logic we all hope he uses as he weighs his options. It's pretty rare to pass up a first round draft spot, though. I hope he does, but given his recent momentum, I fully expect him to be gone after this season.

    Game Thread: Illinois at Northwestern

I never really internalized that there was a single person screaming at NU games. My brain just kind of filtered it as background game noise. Now that I know what's going on and can't unhear it...I'm literally cursing at the TV right now.

Of course it's not legal for him specifically. I never said that. But neither is alcohol, and using that substance will net you a much lighter punishment (if any at all) than say, cocaine or heroin. They're different. You honestly think being caught with a six-pack at age 19 is just as bad...

Alright Richard Nixon, first off, the person reflexively defending the suspension based on "facts" that are entirely unsubstantiated at this point is, in fact, off their rocker. Also, if the suspension is indeed due to cannabis then, like MadSeason said, it's time to get with the times. The...

    Illini Basketball 2018-2019

I find a lot of groupthink happens with mock draft boards, but not the kind necessarily influenced by the people doing the decision-making (i.e. scouts and execs). I tend to like those people/boards that approach the process more iteratively, and continually update based on what they're seeing...

    Illini Basketball 2018-2019

Cam Reddish is shooting 39% from the field and 36% from three, yet will likely be a top 5 pick in June. Efficiency stats tend to matter a little less at this stage than the eye test, and inconsistency is the nature of most freshmen. He may not be a first round draft pick but he's clearly got...

    Illini Basketball 2018-2019

May have already been posted, but I noticed that Ayo is listed at #24 for ESPN's (Givony and Schmitz) 2019 draft board. I was skeptical Ayo would be one and done just because of how bad our team is, but perhaps it won't matter. THT is listed at #25 too, which I thought was interesting. Now for...

    PSA to Online Illinois Fans

Eh, disagree. There's been a pretty well-documented but casually tracked trend of relatively higher activity amongst Illinois fans than other programs, particularly compared to programs of similar stature (i.e. bad). And when all those active engagers with recruits get upset when some recruit...

    PSA to Online Illinois Fans

Thank you thank you thank you for calling this out. This has been a problem for far too long. Honestly, if they're bad enough, I have no qualms reporting tweets of our own fans. Somehow, someway, this message needs to get across.

Giorgi is the one thing that has me somewhat optimistic about the future. Not that he alone will change a program's fortunes, but hitting on low-rated recruits is exactly what we need to dig ourselves out of this mess. And he's another dog out there. I'll take a less talented player that...

And he's so talented. So sad to see him just simply not take advantage of it. It's not like anybody else on the team is stealing shots and preventing him from getting his.

At least we're gonna have a new practice facility! :ROFLMAO: We should just scrap football and give those scholarships to other sports. Maybe re-form the men's swim team or something. Enough with this :poop:

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (November-December 2018)

Kofi is a man-child but I'm skeptical of his pro prospects, especially after just a year or two. Kinda reminds me of Udoka Azubuike at Kansas but with a shorter wingspan. Has anybody here seen him in person? How is his shooting, passing, and defensive ability? He looks like the kind of...

Precisely -- I'm in my 20s. The current uniforms are distasteful across all age groups.

Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread (November-December 2018)

Don't know about this but man, that graphic just shows how ugly our uniforms are right now. Maybe only Texas Tech's are worse, but that's debatable. We so badly need to switch to the simple old school "Fighting Illini" ones of old as our main unis and never look back.

G League to offer $125K to elite prospects as alternative to one-and-done route

I will wager my second beach house that it is going away (at least in the way we think of it). Just a matter of time until the NBA and the NBPA come to terms to allow high schoolers to make the jump straight to the NBA again.

G League to offer $125K to elite prospects as alternative to one-and-done route

I came here to buy an argument! ...but really, whether or not elite players will take the G-League as a legitimate path to the NBA. Obelix believes that the number will be very small because the G-League doesn't provide enough exposure (which is definitely true in the traditional sense). My...

G League to offer $125K to elite prospects as alternative to one-and-done route

I think this kind of makes my point, which is that we're talking about separate worlds here. NBA fandom is different, demographically, than college basketball fandom. The average college basketball fan doesn't know those players, and probably still won't unless their team has a shot at landing...

G League to offer $125K to elite prospects as alternative to one-and-done route

Disagree. And I know I'm citing outliers here, but LaMelo Ball and Zion Williamson would say otherwise. I think you are viewing this from the vantage point of an older bball fan rather than those of the younger generation, specifically high school and below. That audience follows elite high...
