2018 White Sox

The last few weeks has got me REAL hyped for next season. They will obviously call up Eloy ASAP next season, probably Cease too. Pick up a solid free agent reliever or closer and I could see us making legit noise in the AL Central.

SP in no order:
Kopech
Giolito
Lopez
Rodon
Cease

Rodon has some work to do but last 7 starts has a 0.94 WHIP and 1.02 last 15 starts. Giolito has really turned a new leaf since the break and has a 1.15 WHIP last 7 starts. Lopez with a 1.13 WHIP last 7 starts. Cease is a question mark but looks really good in minors with a 0.99 WHIP since promotion to AAA.

LF-Jimenez
CF-Engel
RF-Garcia
3B-Sanchez
SS-Anderson
2B-Moncada
1B-Abreu
C-Castillo
DH-Palka/Davidson

Hahn has said we will go after big name FA when the time calls. Who knows when that will be.

I share the same excitement as KrushCow, but will disagree on the Cease call up timeline. I think he will follow the Kopech timeline from this year. And if that is the case, brings the question on who will get the 5th starter spot. Someone they have now, go after a big name FA starter, or a flyer on a guy on a short deal.

With some of the arms in the minors now, the bullpen could be a huge asset for us very soon. Like you said add a FA to that mix, along with some power arms coming up. Watch out.

Also, Anderson has really impressed me of late on how he can play SS defensively. I'm curious on where Madrigal will play the field next year in the minors and what they says about future defensive alignment for Anderson or Moncada.

These jerks are getting me unreasonably excited for next year even with the gaping holes we'll inevitably have.

Okay back to back shellings of Gio & Kopech are just what my expectations needed. .500 next year and let's call it a win.

Please god just stay healthy. Seeing Ohtani succumbing to TJ afterall has be feeling very pessimistic about Dunning's immediate health. Seems like when that UCL sustains damage it's a one way street.
Just get Dunning's TJ out of the way now if that is the case.

I imagine we'll definitely be picking up Shields option. Hard to say outside of that, besides possibly cryogenically freezing Dylan Cease.

I hate to say it, because I've enjoyed the hell out of this year and all it's metanarratives - this all but closes the book on this season for me. Beyond devastating.

Hopefully I'll make it down to Phoenix for ST. Maybe see some of the folks in this thread there. Until then, jesus, what a year.

After I moved away from Chicago 10+ years ago, the Cubs vs Sox rivalry carried a lot less significance to me. Until we are in the same division, I don't care much on what the Cubs do or don't do. But for the love of god, please don't let them clinch the division on our field.

Perhaps it's the fact that I've only been gone 6, but I still would love a previously undiscovered fault line to open up a massive hole on Addison and swallow Wrigley whole. I wish every one of them not named Jose Quintana nothing but the worst, short of death/major injury.

Gonna miss the hawk. I fall squarely on the love him side.

There will never be two better homers on the mic than Hawk Harrelson and Johnny Red Kerr.

People make the love/hate for Hawk very black and white. At 34 years old, Hawk has been the only voice I associate with White Sox baseball, and because of that, I love him. But at this stage in what I want from a baseball broadcast, I have moved on from the catchphrases and stories. I NOW enjoy the information that Jason gives me in the broadcast.

Hawk is that drunk uncle that you know is a total *sshole, but he's family. He did become wholly unlistenable at the end there. Saturday's game took years off my life.

Benetti and Stone are an incredible combo. Stoney better get some city-wide fanfare when he chooses to hang it up.

Hawk became a cliche. He retired as one of the gold standards of the homer announcer cliche.

I don't hate the sox as a cubs fan (I know, blasphemy), but as someone who is sometimes forced to listen to white sox streams, he at least made it moderately entertaining. That said, I can see how 100+ games of him can become ear bleedingly, mind meltingly awful. Watching the end of last nights game, you could tell he really cared for the team. He's one of maybe 10 announcers I can recognize within about 3 words. Whether you like him or not, he built something around his "talent". All that said, I wont be sad to see him go.
