3/5-3/6 Games

#1
Couple of upsets by seed in some more conferences. 3 seed Lipscomb defated 2 seed North Florida and will face the 1 seed Liberty in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship game on Sunday afternoon. 7 seed Bucknell upset 2 seed American in the Patriot League quarterfinals and will play at 3 seed Boston University on Sunday in the Patriot League semifinals.

Days like this are kinda why I wanted to have a separate Championship Week thread when there's not much else going on. Oh well.

EIU's season ends in the OVC Tournament Quarterfinals as 3 seed Austin Peay dominates the Panthers in a 76-65 victory that was nowhere near as close as the final score indicates. Austin Peay stormed out to a 17-0 lead 6 minutes into the game, leading 42-19 at half, and led by as many as 26 points in the game. EIU going 4-22 from behind the 3-point arc didn't help much either. The Panthers were led in scoring by George Dixon with 15 points as 5 Panthers scored in double figures though many of those points were scored in garbage time in the 2nd half.

EIU finishes the season 17-15 overall and actually won their last 5 games of the season before the defeat tonight. The Panthers do have 5 seniors that they will be losing but only 2 of them played any meaningful minutes throughout the season. They will be one of the more experienced teams in the OVC next season (assuming there are no transfers out) with 7 seniors on next year's team, including their top 3 leading scorers from this season.

Austin Peay moves on to play Murray State tomorrow night.

Drake beats UNI - the first time that an 8/9 has beaten a 1 in St. Louis. Bradley wins the second semifinal against SIU. Did Illinois recruit Lance Jones? He played a hell of a game for the Salukis as a freshman. Loyola-Valpo and InSU-MoState in the evening games.

Couple of NIT auto-bids clinched today/tonight as top-seeded Radford lost to Hampton 86-78 in the Big South Conference tournament semifinals. Hampton will play at Winthrop for the Big South Conference tournament championship on Sunday afternoon.

And, as others on here know already, 1 seed Northern Iowa was blown out by 8 seed Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

So apparently the 1/2 seeds were 57-1 all-time vs the 7-10 seeds at Arch Madness and hadn’t lost since 1998 (44 straight).

Today, they both lost. And it took UNI losing by 21 to archrival Drake after blasting them by 27 5 days earlier. And Loyola blowing an 18-point 2nd half lead including a 6-point lead in the final 28 seconds.
