My girlfriend is a PT specializing in Neuro rehab so I get a little view of this kind of work from the therapy side most days. It's nice to see that the article focuses on independence too. Sometimes there's this attitude of "walk or bust", but it's not as simple as just putting in the effort -- a lot of people put in huge amounts of effort and still never walk again because that's just now how their injury sits or how it heals. From a therapy side, the "walk or bust" attitude can be problematic when a patient only wants to work on walking rather than, say, wheelchair transfers. So although it's always inspiring to see someone recover the ability to walk, we should also keep in mind that a person can be independent and inspirational without walking, too. Just watching those overhead presses is amazing!!
