From Guy in Galaxy Quest to Oscar winner, Sam Rockwell.
I've heard so much about his performance in Moon, which is now on Netflix. Can't wait to see that and Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Kobe Bryant is an Oscar winner.

Let that sink in for a moment.
Nice little post-basketball career.

And now Jordan Peele is an Oscar winner.
So happy for him!

Gotta admit I figured Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri would have won Best Picture.

I personally would have liked to see Darkest Hour or maybe even Dunkirk win it.

Kinda surprised The Shape of Water won it though.
Very happy for Guillermo del Toro!

Nice little post-basketball career.
Had a friend of a friend post on facebook that they watched the 5 animated shorts that were nominated and actually thought Dear Basketball was the worst of the group. Now I don't know how much of that was due to said person not being much of a sports fan or what. I know the film was based on the letter Kobe wrote in the Players' Tribune announcing his retirement.

No Marvel fans out there???

I saw Avengers Infinity War opening night, and am going again this evening. Loved it!! Looks like it's going to smash the recent mark set by Black Panther, which I also enjoyed very much.
Based on the box office numbers, it seems there are many Marvel fans out there! I'm waiting for the theaters to calm down a bit before I go see it.

I did, however, get to see Wes Anderson's latest Isle of Dogs a few weekends back. As with most of his films, I very much enjoyed it, though comparatively speaking I think I preferred Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Another movie I took in was A Quiet Place. While I do understand the excitement it received, it would have fell flat without the story arc of the deaf daughter.

Marvel is crushing it on the movie side. By nature, they will always be compared to DC, and it's not even close. This kills me because I think DC characters are way better, but what they're doing with the movies is just depressing.

You can tell that marvel is executing a well thought out, long term plan; as opposed to "lets make man of steel, now lets go back and make man of steel the foundation of our universe." Its being proven right now that you can't do that. I have literally never seen a movie in the Avengers family that I don't like. Some are certainly better than others, but all seem to be better than the DC Justice League universe, which pretty much only has Wonder Woman's movie as anything remotely positive.

A Quiet Place was good. And well, yeah! Her being deaf is what carried the plot of the story from beginning to end. I honestly didn't even pick up on the fact she was deaf until a good ways into the movie.
Genuinely asking, was this not apparent right off the bat in the opening scene on the bridge?

I didn't pick up on it at the time, I was just thinking OHHH SHHHIIIITE!!!

I just watched that clip, and yes, it should have been obvious. I was caught up in wanting to see the baddie making it's appearance.
I appreciate you candor! Ha, I was concerned I would be coming across as a jerk once I submitted my reply. And indeed, the baddie was rather intimidating. With my startle response as sensitive as it is, I would probably last about 1.5 seconds in that world.

I read a sequel is in the works, which is interesting to say the least.

Growing up I never really got into the DC side of things. I was all about X-Men, Avengers, Hulk, and Silver Surfer. I will still watch all the DC movies, though, just cuz I'm a nerd that way.

I will tell you that although I have enjoyed all the MCU movies, my favorite super hero movie is a non Disney offering. And in this movie I cannot think of a single scene that I think could be altered to make it better. Whereas in the MCU movies, as much as I have enjoyed them, there always seems to be a scene or two where I roll my eyes and think "Really?!?!?" lol.

I won't tell what the movie is. I'm curious if one or two of you can name it.
Disney casts a wide net these days, so I'm not even sure if these fall under their umbrella, but I'll guess either Watchmen or Hellboy.

Winner winner, chicken dinner! :thumb:

I LOVED that movie! I was teary eyed a couple times in that flick, lol.

If you haven't seen the Noir version, please do! It's a really different look and sets a different tone.

I'm super excited about the possibilities that exist with the potential purchase of Fox's movie division by Disney. Being able to bring the X-Men into the fold would be amazing! So with the current MCU coming to a close (think reboot) in the next year or two, having access to the Fox stable of super heroes, X-Men, Fantastic 4, Deadpool, etc... will make for some pretty exciting things. I think recasting some of the heroes/actors, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, etc. etc... and using another of dozens of great story arcs from the comics, it can really be a whole lot of fun!!

I wish I knew what was in store for Laura, X-23..... Ahhhh, found this... http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/wolverine/news/a841388/logan-wolverine-spin-off-movie-laura/
***MILD SPOILER ALERT FOR INFINITY WAR IF YOU CARE***

Idk if the current mcu is coming to a close. There are marvel movies without names scheduled through 2022, but one will be a guardians and one will be a Black Panther. One will also be for the character hinted at by the pager at the end.

Howard the Duck

Oh wait, I thought you said a single scene that shouldn't be altered.... ;)

I'm a big big fan of "The Rocketeer," but alas that was also the mouse IIRC.

Deadpool anyone? I saw it last night.
Just saw it yesterday. I'm a fan of superhero movies, but for those who might be annoyed by them, the Deadpool films are perfect (provided they also appreciate R-rated snark).

Regarding Deadpool 2, I loved the addition of Domino. She was awesome.

I just watched “American Made” and thought it was very good. How did this movie go so underrated? I finally watched “The Shape of Water” and while it was good, by no means the movie of the year. “3 Billboards” was much better in my opinion.

A few things:
-I enjoyed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It wasn't a genre-changing film, but certainly a fun popcorn blockbuster.

-Hoping to see the Fred Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor this week at some point. He is a personal hero of mine, so I am quite excited.

-Ant Man and the Wasp is also on my list, but I am more excited to see the directorial debuts Eighth Grade from Bo Burnham and Sorry to Bother You from Boots Riley.

-Lastly, in movie news, it is being reported that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX.

It's a nice palette cleanser and change of pace after Infinity War. Perfect amount of humor, Paul Rudd is fantastic (as usual). I wouldn't call it anything special, but definitely an enjoyable couple hours.
That is exactly how I hoped it would be without having the words to describe it. Thank you!

Caught a matinee of it yesterday. Though the plot could have probably been solved by a simple conversation between the protagonists and antagonists, it wa one of the funnier films in the MCU. Not to mention Wasp was rather awesome, specifically her fight scenes during the car chases. Lastly, the post-credits scene (the first one), is worth sticking around for. Admittedly, I gasped.
