BTN Plus Thread

Illinois has 5 games on BTN Plus this season. BTN Plus is an online-only pay service, if you wish to watch all 5 Illini BTN Plus games it'll cost you about $20 total (2 months at $9.95/month). BTN Plus is a completely separate service from your cable/satellite provider, you will have to sign up & pay for BTN Plus if you wish to watch these 5 games no matter if you receive BTN or not.

Illini Games on BTN Plus
Nov 2nd Illinois Wesleyan (Exhibition)
Nov 8th Evansville
Nov 25th Mississippi Valley State
Dec 15th East Tennessee State
Dec 29th Florida Atlantic

For the 5 Illini games it's best to sign up on Nov 1st, then cancel your subscription sometime in December-

Choose the $9.95/month Illinois option

You'll also get access for those months for any other Illini sports on BTN+ You also get 7 volleyball games. Not sure about any women's basketabll or men's wrestling.

I usually get it for 2 months.

Can you replay BTN plus games if you don’t catch them live? Also, would it be possible to only buy a one month subscription in December and rewatch the games I missed from November?

No commercials during these games, right? BTN probably justifies the monthly fee as a way of offsetting the lack of revenue from commercials. I doubt they pay the student announcers, but they do have expenses for cameras and crew.

Now if I can just remember to cancel BTN+ after the last game.

I just cancel it right after the second payment.

Does anyone know if you shell out the money for BTN+, can you watch the games through the BTN to Go app? Don't really want to watch on my computer and hooking the computer up to the tv is a hassle.

Just wanted to share some research. Not only is BTN+ a separate service, but (if their site is to be believed) you dont have to even have any other subscriptions. So you're free to choose anything you want for your primary service, or nothing at all.

Every game I've watched has worked perfectly for me. All you need is a good internet connection and you should be good. Production obviously isn't good, but I don't buy it for the production. I buy it to watch the game. The 'ole mute the tv and listen to the radio broadcast works pretty well.

Has anyone used the BTN2Go app with a Roku device? I currently watch BTN through the Playstation Vue app on my wired Amazon FireTv device, but the standalone BTN2Go app isn't compatible with Fire TV, so I can't watch BTN Plus content through the BTN2Go app. Also, the Youtube TV app is a no-go on the Fire TV since Amazon and Google are competing platforms, which is another reason why I'm considering buing a Roku Ultra, in case I want to switch from Playstation Vue ($49.99) to Youtube TV ($39.95).

I have a Roku express ( $ 21) and use Roku and have bought BTN2Go for the last 2 years with no problems ...all you need is the BTN streaming channel and the btn+ is their when you open btn....works ok for me without vue or youtube, as I had sling orange but changed to hulu live recently for more channel choices..

FYI- the FOXSPORTS app seems to be more reliable showing the BTN games.

Yea that makes sense. I'm not getting the warning though, so maybe it was a one off. Certificate looks valid on my browser.
Sorry, I don't want to turn this into a user support forum, but perhaps readers will be patient with me if it means we're confirming that we're not putting our secure data at risk.

I'm using chrome version 70. Per this post to the google security blog, it is with the release of version 70 that certs issued by Symantec are no longer trusted. When I look at the details of the btn2go cert, it does appear to be a Symantec issued cert.

Would you be willing to share which browser and version you're using? And is the cert you're seeing for the site, one that's issued by Symantec? I'm trying to determine whether a 2nd person is having this issue. The btn csr I chatted with didn't seem too open to the possibility that their site has an issue.

[update: This 2nd blog post seems to indicate not all users of chrome 70 will initially see the warning, so that could explain why others haven't reported.]

I use chrome and first logged into my existing BTN account (log in under BTN Plus top menu). Then I was able to buy the monthly pass after choosing Illinois for my school. $10/mo. I confirmed I could stream BTN Plus content to both my phone and Roku streaming stick on TV which is my plan for watching tonight. I couldn't stream content in the Chrome web browser itself as I don't have flash enabled, but you can enable it you want to watch on your computer.

And/or just use another browser that does support a recent version of Flash.

And no, I never got any security nags about the BTN site being unsafe.
