Coaching Carousel

Great hire for them. Taking the Memphis approach, but with a coach that has more experience than the HS ranks. He obviously is going to have ties to Chicago, which isn't such a good thing for us.
Agree... good hire from them from a recruiting standpoint. Don't know if he can coach. Hiring a primary assistant with head coaching experience will help with that. Recruiting 80% of winning and knowing his way around Chicago another plus. Think Michigan advantage.

He was a much talked about candidate for NBA head coaching jobs so I think he can handle the coaching aspect of it.

It's interesting that Whitman was early in on this no college experience hiring when his number 1 choice was Monty Williams.

Good point. Football too, sort of..college experience was a long time ago. Never know but think Howard will be an excellent recruiter.

Again don't discount that Howard was an assistant for the Heat under Erik Spoelstra who is considered a really good Xs and Os coach by NBA standards. Also was mentored by Pat Riley who has forgotten more about coaching than we will ever know. This isn't somebody coming from high school. He has been groomed to be a head coach since he retired.

Being a familiar face on the AAU circuit when other coaches can’t be there couldn’t hurt.

Howard wasn’t allowed to do anything more than exchange a greeting with other prospects or their parents Wednesday. And he was only allowed to watch games involving his son, who is trying to make the 12-man roster for this summer’s FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Brazil. But the former Fab Five star’s presence certainly didn’t go unnoticed.
