I thought FCS schools were off limits now?

It is my understanding that the Big 10 now allows a conference team one FCS opponent in the years it has only 4 conference games at home. The Illini apparently will only get 4 in 2024.

I think it's really really foolish to play Toledo. Consistently one of the strongest MAC programs. Go play Bowling Green or Ball State instead.

It's been reported that Florida Atlantic will play at Minnesota on September 3, 2020. Florida Atlantic has been scheduled to play at Illinois that year on September 5. Apparently that game will now be postponed or cancelled:

More confusion. Florida Atlantic's football website shows the Owls playing at Illinois on September 2, 2023 instead of September 3, 2020. Now Dan has reported and the Illini website shows Illinois scheduled to play Toledo in Champaign on that same date:

"FBS Schedules" is now saying that Florida Atlantic will play at Illinois on September 23, 2023, thereby completing the Illini's non-conference schedule for that year:

Guessing Illinois doesn't have great options to add a quality opponent to the 2020 schedule, could look a little soft if they add a MAC-level opponent. Wouldn't mind a home-and-home matchup with Oregon State or similar program, but it's a tough sell for there to be 4 years in-between the games (next opening on the schedule is 2024. With a MAC opponent already on the schedule, might be looking for an uncommon matchup, like a UNLV, Troy, Memphis, Coastal Carolina type-of-opponent.

With only 4 conference home games, and assuming they want to have 7 games at home in 2020, the Big 10 would even allow them to schedule an FCS opponent, such as they reportedly have in 2024 with Eastern Illinois.
