That 68-69 team was special and great fun. The late 60's and early 70's were a contentious time ("generation-gap", anti-war era) and it was as difficult then as it is now for many to adapt to the societal changes of the time. A good man and a great Illini. Our best wishes to his family and friends.

I vaguely remember his era, but looking back he did a remarkable job of resurrecting the program from the Slush fund scandal. He seemed to be a good coach and was unfairly maligned as a racist - his style just wasn't cut out for the times and he made a few poor recruiting decisions. RIP to a great Illini
