So your choice is to leave the ride open instead of taking a guy that might get better than he is (bigs often are a lot better as upperclassmen). I don't understand that line thinking.
If the staff feels that this kid has been severely overlooked by all other schools(literally all other schools) and they're taking him on because they REALLY think he'll develop....then fine. They're paid to evaluate talent and develop it.

However, if they see a big kid sitting out there and are just trying to fill all of the seats...then I'd rather bank it or give it to one of the walk-ons for one season.

Actually don't see much difference in giving the scholarship for 1 year and not using it. Probably a crap shoot on lower ranked kids but a huge get if they develop. It would be bad to waste a scholarship for 4 years on someone that never played. They have probably improved the odds because of their relationship with his HS coach in this case.

Henry 22.0 mins, 6.1 pts, 49.5 fg%,3.8R, 1.6 A, .6 S, 1.3 TO
Tevian 9.2 mins,3.5 pts, 40.8 fg%, 1.4 R, .2 A, .5 S, .2 TO

Ahead but not by my measure of light years. Expect big improvement from both but larger from Tevian because of such limited minutes. I am actually expecting Alan to start over Tevian because of his defense which obviously isn't measured here and I believe Henry was a good defensive player.
If we just take Tevian's minutes and multiply them by 2.5 and then assume that he's improved enough to maintain his efficiency from last year to also multiply the remaining stats by 2.5:
Tevian: 23.0 mins, 8.8 pts, 40.8 fg%, 3.5 R, 0.5 A, 1.3 S, 0.5 TO

Then Henry probably improves also. If we increases his minutes by 20% while also maintaining his other stats he'd have something like:
Henry: 26.4 mins, 7.3 pts, 49.5 fg%, 4.6 R, 1.9 A, 0.7 S, 1.6 TO

But let's say he increases his other stats by another 20% while maintaining his Turnovers despite the increased minutes:
Henry: 26.4 mins, 8.8 pts, 49.5 fg%, 5.5 R, 2.3 A, 0.9 S, 1.3 TO

I think those are fair expectations to have for both of these players. If you compare the projected stat lines based on those expectations there is not that big of a difference between the 2:

Tevian: 23.0 mins, 8.8 pts, 40.8 fg%, 3.5 R, 0.5 A, 1.3 S, 0.5 TO
Henry: 26.4 mins, 8.8 pts, 49.5 fg%, 5.5 R, 2.3 A, 0.9 S, 1.3 TO

Thanks for the research, some folks measure light years differently I guess.😎

You understand that it is not known that they are "dead wood" a priori, right? Evidently, not.
I understand what you're saying...I do. The point is that we've cut "dead wood" as you termed it and in return are taking on a kid that has an offer list as long as yours is.....as a last ditch effort to fill a seat.

Now, would you rather have your "dead wood" or the situation we've currently moved on to.

Was that easier to comprehend?

So I don't get it? Not trying to be argumentative, but you state, Expect Tevian's big improvement due to lack of minutes, then state you actually think Griffin will start over Tevian because of defense? Wouldn't that lend to limited minutes and thus minimal improvement?

Henry is projected for far more minutes and usage and a much greater future in ball, than any of our wings...you can count on that imo.

Although I like your efforts and research, thank you, I think you may be skewed in thinking the two are peas in the same pod...they are not and will not be. Henry will make a substantial leap this year due to Izzo/gameplan/needs/talent.....Jones/Griffin will not be needed in this way, gameplanned for, needed as much, and are less talented overall in the schemes in which they all need to play.

I like Griffin, and Jones. Griffin actually more, although he seems to run very upright/not fluid? Jones to me appears to coast...not sure that is fair, just how it seems. Either way neither is/or will be as good when all is said and done this year than Henry will be.

you feel me, dog?

Kane and Ebo left of their own volition. The only dead wood Underwood culled was Matic. Comprehend this.

With Langford healthy, with Winston and who ever is current bigs, don't see a giant leap in his usage.I expect all will improve, just rooting for the ones on my team more.

Actually like this offer, and the way it was planned/played out....this kid went head to head with Okoro 2 years ago and held his own. We were all clamoring for Okoro, and BU was present and watched that game in person. One has to wonder if this may have been where the Hamlin interest may have started. Speaking of Okoro, how's his playing time going to be this year? He is so over recruited right now and it just got worse for him also. I think Hamlin will be a solid 4 year player for us.

Really wanted Okoro but agree unfortunately he is a candidate for the portal and will have many suitors, very excited about Kofi, seems BU had multiple plans.
