Any word or thoughts on the Emerald Coast classic?????
A rather small gym for social distancing, nice gym but only seas 2500

I don't think gym size really matters. This was a TV event from the get-go, but I planned to attend if they did have it.

I've been thinking seriously about attending as well, but I'd like to be convinced the games will actually happen before booking the trip.

Unlikely that it happens at all and 0.000% anyone will be allowed to attend

Right. Certainly doesn't help that Oregon is one of the participants. The Pac-12 which has currently cancelled all sports for the rest of the calendar year.
If the other teams are ready to play, wouldn't they look for a replacement? 3 months is a long way out still, but new cases have been declining nationally since peaking after what looked like a post-July 4th spike. It's not true everywhere, but I think the general pattern holds in most places. With other sports managing to play games, I'll put a little money (no beach house) on it going forward by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.

Agreed, they'll find a replacement for the Ducks.

I'm still all in on regional, bubble non-conf schedules. Give me teams from Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Wisconsin, place them somewhere for 2-4 weeks, and let them go at it. With almost all schools going virtual after thanksgiving, its a perfect time. Cost would be interesting, but I'd hope that all the schools receive close to equal pay for these things.

Perhaps a more cost effective solution would be a tighter regional play system. Schools have their guys in quarantine back at respective campuses, they travel either each others arenas or a neutral site and only play 5-6 teams, perhaps some twice. Not that the world revolves around champaign, but I'd have to imagine there's close to a dozen D1 schools within a 300 mile radius. Might even be possible to tighten that a bit too.

I was wondering if anyone is hearing anything about how practices are going? Really interested in the Lieb / Cockburn match ups.

Springfiled, IL.
Looks like a November 25th start date with no exhibition or scrimmages.

T Underwood looked like he was in some sort of bulky arm/elbow sling in photos from the March the other day.

"Uhh I imagine the Lieb/Cockburn matchup is pretty one sided right now."

Reminds me of two kids I knew well from high school days. The sr. dominated the soph. every day in practice, literally running him over like a fullback for an entire practice one day when the coach was trying to teach the younger kid to take a charge. The sr. was all conference and went on to play at Evansville for a national champ team. The soph grew a couple of inches, put on 40 lbs., and was a consensus all-state selection as a sr..

Point is, you never know what will happen, but both guys have talents, though not similar. Kofi is physically gifted but will likely never be a great shooter. Lieb is a gifted shooter for his size but not physically strong and may never be....but pretty skilled and crafty offensively. For the first time, since Mike Tisdale, we have a 7 footer that can shoot from over 5 ft. And he has some shrewdness to his game which can really pay off in the clutch. Just glad to have both of them with Lieb having time to grow his game and strength. His value will be earned on what he becomes defensively. It appears we have no major holes to fill quickly going forward for the moment and a solid team to support now.

A couple of physicians I know believe it will depend on 1) how severe the back-to-school surge is and 2) if there is a surge during the normal flu season

Lastly, our friends at the University of Illinois appear to have cracked the code to semi-normalcy. They are testing 8500 students and staff daily with results back in several hours. Twice weekly testing is required. Results are sent via app. A current negative test result is required to gain entry into buildings on campus ... Jolly good show Illini ... Mike C. MD
