Illinois 86, Mississippi Valley State 67 POSTGAME

46% shooting from 2 and 37% from 3 or there abouts against a team that no one hardly knows anything about...MVSU apologies. With same # of turnovers for both teams?

If this was a tune up game for Notre Dame, that line will be beat like a drum against us.

On offense, rarely in triple threat position to shoot, pass, dribble. This led to bad shots, sloppy passes, missed oppurtunities.

On defense, too many poor defensive fundamentals to mention. Really prefer a strong man to man just to teach basics. We as a team don't keep players in front and give to much space for shooters. Part of it is schemes but also technique. Griffin and Ayo are long, but struggle to keep players from driving. Tevian is an AAU defender, very matador. All 3 have very bright futures and I'm a big fan.

Damonte and AJ fundamentally stronger on defense, they will get their starter minutes.

IRT %, are you speaking of someone specifically or the team as a whole? Illinois was about 52% from 3 pt range.

True, but we pretty much played everybody. I’m pretty sure coach was using this game to coach, run sets, teach the guys a few things. He wasn’t interested in flexing his muscle, he wanted his guys to learn in-game.
Just checked the stats on the Nebraska game. They left their starters in for an average of about 25-28 minutes each.

Trent, AJ, and Ayo played more minutes than any Nebraska player in their win. Did you think Tim Miles just played his starters all game?

Not much to be encouraged about here. Defense continues to be porous - that’s a horrible opponent and late in the second half they were shooting 62%.

Offensively, we tied a school record for 3s in a game. That’s not sustainable or really what we are even trying to hang out hat on, offensively.

Not looking forward to these next three games.

Yea, I think it's going to be a painful year. Going to just try and enjoy watching for some growth over games this year. Not expecting much else. Growth over this year and maintaining most of the roster I think is about the best we can hope for. I'd love for them to prove me wrong!
