Breaks my football heart. High talent down the road that doesn't feel Illinois is good enough for him. What we would look like if they all did just come....hopefully someday

A flip or two (or three or four) of major players and this commit trend continues, Lovie stays no matter what happens at the Bowl end.

Wouldn’t it be great if Antonio johnson got word from all of stl area kids and he flipped? I imagine it will get harder as time passes as he will he recruited across the board

Wow. I don't want to get my hopes up but that is encouraging.
You know he isn't DMing him to get him to Minnesota. If anything, it makes me feel good about Moore

I would hope so.

I'm just glad that we got the last visit before the dead period starts and that he's planning on announcing on August 18th.

The fact that he got out of Minnesota without committing there is also encouraging. They usually land commits very quickly after players visit.

Anyone with knowledge about how PJ closes on so many of his visitors if the above is true? I feel like he's a slick used car salesman and that he puts the screws to whoever visits to close on the visit itself. It's not easy to go against that hard sell like Moore has and to walk out of the campus with a "let me think about this" mentality. I hope he's more for the logic approach of assessing all the facts and then choosing what's right for him. I think Lovie's style of "we want you, but there's no hard sell. We want you to be an Illini and choose to be vs pressure you" might work best for someone that likes to internalize the decision like that. I may be drawing too much on too little, but hey, here's to hoping for a great result for us!

Jirehl Brock gave some insight on this last year.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles...says-pj-fleck-would-text-him-every-30-minutes

Minnesota head football coach P.J. Fleck might have found college football's line between flatteringly aggressive and overbearing.
Jirehl Brock, who committed to Iowa State over Fleck's Gophers, said the Minnesota coach would text him every half hour during his recruitment.

"When Coach Little says people were calling every hour, it was (Minnesota) calling," Brock told David Adam of the Herald Whig. "They would text every 30 minutes. It was a lot to take in. You don't want to be rude about it. You try to be as nice as possible. They were the hardest school to say no to.

"Before I took my visit, I heard they would put you in the office and lock the doors and put an hourglass upside down and say, 'You have this much time to commit.' Good thing they never did that to me. Talking to Coach Fleck in his office with my parents, it was really tempting to commit because of the approach he takes. He's a really good guy, don't get me wrong, but he knows how to make somebody intimidated."

A hard sell, time-share press works on lower rated recruits (claim your spot while there is one), but doesn't work nearly as well on higher rated recruits. Also, when lower rated commits get dropped (for upgrades), that MO is going to get noted. Lovie's approach requires patience, but our commits tend to stick.

To get a sense of lovies approach, check out the book givers and takers. It won’t work for everyone, but it takes a very talented person to be a giver and be so successful. Once the talent is there and the culture shifts, it will pay dividends.
