Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

you feel me, dog?

Fun fact, AJ Henning is Quinn Richardson’s grandson. He has Illini DNA.
That's wild. And a heckuva fact. Would love to flip Henning.

Richardson had the best senior year out of all nondescript pre-senior year Illini IMO. Honorable mention to Tony Wysinger and Chris Gandy (although Tony Y was better than nondescript earlier). Probably forgetting some guys here.

Probably unlikely, but would be interesting if we matched up in a bowl game
This team is much improved, going to a bowl would be a much-needed accomplishment, but I do not want to face a team like Texas in a bowl game. Would much prefer a team like Duke. That said, a matchup against a team like Texas would provide the needed fuel that, if you win, you're talking about capturing some much needed headlines.

That must have been very hard for him to hit the send button
I actually don't think that he would have a problem admitting being wrong. The truth is that when he was saying what he was saying, we hadn't shown ourselves to be good. We were selling the narrative of rebuilding and our record and stats were atrocious. Add to it that our top offensive player, defensive player and new recruit all got injured and our season did not look to be heading toward success. I still believed we had a chance, but I was starting to come to grips with being wrong (before wisconsin).

Hopefully, we can keep this up to finish out this season and build on it next season. But none of those are guaranteed. Injuries happen. Losing close battles are a matter of inches. But, things look good with a 3 game BIG win streak

Ya but he was saying Lovie and the whole staff was going to be fired last year before the season even started. So I am not giving him a pass

I believed the whole time. Didnt think the outcome would come in the fashion that it did. I thought we would beat EMU and lose to UW. Im happy with what I am seeing though. I think this MSU game will tell us alot about where we are. Also having Bobby, Beitku, Smalling, out in addition to losing Bennet, and Lou this team is doing outstanding. And I still believe we should have won EMU of course and possibly Michigan. We are definately trending up. Now as a Chicagoan I know Lovie has a huge advantage to parents for off the field things such as parents trusting coaches with their children. Lovie is known as one of the most stand up men with integrity in football. Now that the on field production is improving lets see where it goes!

After the Taggart firing, FSU has started to see some recruiting attrition, including Jaylan Knighton, a 4-star all purpose RB from the same high school as Jakari Norwood and Daniel Barker. Not sure if we're in on him at all, but Barker tweeted a response to Knighton's de-commit tweet.

Never want to turn away a talent like that but may be better served using our remaining scholarships in other areas. RB is very dependent position and our room is already stout as it is.

Now, if Jadarius McKnight decommits.....

You're right but always love to add skill players like him. Looking at the offensive depth chart next year, the team is pretty well stocked all around. QB depth is the same as this year; RB depth loses Corbin and Brown (big losses) but can backfill with a hopefully healthy Epstein, Norwood, and Love; WR doesn't lose much IMO and adds Frenchie and Thompson (big adds); TE adds friggin' Luke Ford and keeps Barker; OL only loses Petitbon and adds a few 3* recruits. Looking good.

What's the depth chart at RB for next year? I don't think it is as deep as you think

Epstein, Bonner, Brown (Who intrigues me greatly) Kenyon, Jakari, Cumby in a hybrid type role and then you have Reggie Love. We’re not hurting for talent or bodies and again, this is a position that’s heavily dependent on its production coming from other areas outside of its specific, individual play. If you have a choice between similar rated players at RB or along the OL, you’re likely to take the OL more often that not.

That doesn’t mean you pass on a kid with Jaylin’s talent but if we played a hypothetical game where we only had 1 scholarship left for one player, I wouldn’t use it on a RB regardless of talent.

You also have Ra’Von Bonner and Chase Brown is in that mix too. That kid has my attention.

The offense is exciting, outside of the long term worry along the OL. It’s the defense that needs the talent injection.
