Pretty disappointed we haven't gotten a Frenchie announcement yet

I recall Frenchie or his dad requested a video person, presumably to film his commitment. Joe Moore requested Frenchie contact JM immediately. JM is also a strong possible with the Illini. I wonder if JM wants to announce with Frenchie on the 18th their joint commitment to the Illini. If he does maybe they bring Antonio Johnson and or Lawauun Powell along with them on the 18th. That would be a major event and shake up the B1g.

Amazing as that would be, that is not happening.

Joe Moore already said he is no longer announcing his commitment on the 18th

Joe Moore requested Antonio Johnson to contact him immediately on his decommitment from Ten. Didn't see him do that to Frenchie, I could be wrong.

But ya that stuff just doesn't happen now a days. Everyone wants their own time in the spotlight. Not dogging, just the way it is

I may be mistaken. I thought JM contacted Frenchie. Antonio Johnson would be a great get also. Hopefully all 3.

A big problem for this board is the inability to manage expectations. I think you’d be better served to focus on kids we actually have the opportunity to sign.

So, we're flipping Cooper and Johnson's a lock, amirite? :)

Such as.....

There have been a number of names released and hopefully a few of the others I’ve heard are out there within the next month for discussion that are worthy of our focus. Talking about Antonio Johnson is not.

A conversation, as the season progresses, on our hopes of flipping Mookie actually does have some merit.

There are a number of currently committed 3* star commits that we are working on trying to flip. Flips are a market in and of itself.

There is that little clause about winning that seems to be related to flipping.

Flips are a market in and of itself.

Some time back I had suggested trading. Might as well add "future picks".

If that’s all it took, we wouldn’t have a football program. There are approximately one and a half million reasons players keep and/or flip commitments and an equal number of strategies that a staff can employ to get them to do so.

We are trying the group of 5 route with a number of kids actively. Flip players who had only gotten serious offers and thus committed to a group of 5 team in the hopes that a power 5 offer will get them to rethink their decision.

Feels like recruiting is on backburner - staff needs to go 3-0 in the non-conf and do so in somewhat convincing fashion, get the new facility open, get some buzz going into B1G schedule. Conversations and potential prospects may change drastically based on how that all goes... We can't have a repeat of the last couple of years where we struggle to barely beat MAC competition (and not even good MAC teams).

Recruiting is never on the backburner. That said, no results of late, so understand your sentiment. The focus is certainly on preparing for the season now. To your point, the non-con games are critical.

WRT recruiting, we're going to be pretty selective, as this is going to be a small class. Thinking we'll keep some powder dry for transfers, as that has paid dividends.

We most definitely will, we were thrilled with how well the portal treated us this cycle but keep in mind that it works both ways. We lost 5-6 players to transfer this offseason, which all but canceled out the players we added in terms of roster count. We need to plan for much the same this offseason.

We lost 5-6 guys sure. But did our general talent pool increase or decrease through the portal overall?
