Imo neither BeBe or Betiku are pro ready yet. They're both still pretty raw, and I see Hansen staying around for another yr. He's a late round draft pick at best

Jake Hansen wouldn't get drafted if he left early. He probably won't get drafted after next year. Linebacker is a flooded field in the NFL. Bebe and Betiku are far from ready. Bebe runs a very limited amount of routes so far.

That doesn’t have anything to do with being NFL Draft ready (And he likely couldn’t improve himself in that area with another year here anyway). I can throw a rock and hit a hundred kids who went between rounds 1-4 who couldn’t run the full tree at the time they were drafted. Jeremy Maclin was a first round pick out of Missouri who could only run 1 route. If you have talent and test well, you’ll get picked and Bhebe has talent. If he gets a decent analysis, I wouldn’t blame him if he jumped.

what happened to Wyatt?

Wyatt suffered a pretty serious knee injury last season and may have reaggravated in the offseason that seems to be holding him back this season. I don't know if it was a dislocated knee or something to that effect.

Maclin had value in the return game. I think a better comp would be Dorial Green Beckham (to stay in Mizzou). Now I agree that he could get drafted this year based on his measurables. But why not polish your game for 1 more year. Dont get me wrong, I am all for leaving early if you can. 16 wideouts were drafted in the first 4 rounds last draft. He needs to see if he is 1 of the top 20 wideouts coming out. If he gets that feedback then he should go immediately, but if he doesnt get that feedback I would stay.

This is possibly the most loaded NFL WR draft class ever. Hopefully he stays and improves his stock next year.

Makes sense to me. Someone compare him to J Leman...who populated a few practice squads but never really made it in the NFL. My non-coach recollection was Leman was faster and hit harder.

Maclin hardly returned in Philly early, they didn’t want to risk him after his wild injury at Missouri. He was taken because of the receiving talent and athletic profile, his ability to take the top off the defense. The fact that he could only run 1 route effectively at that time did not deter them. Green Beckham body wise would be a decent comparison but that kid had an interesting career in college that doesn’t quite compare to Bhebe. That kid was also an early second round pick...

Staying another year to hone his craft doesn’t make a ton of sense. Rod isn’t going to use him any differently. The thought of staying another year is to show NFL teams that he’s not a 1 year wonder with 30 career catches. And that could be a smart thing to do. Really depends on his analysis.

Too lazy to check..

Which of the transfers are back next year and which are gone? Only losing Petitbon correct?

Gotcha. I follow things pretty closely, but this development escaped me. Thank you!

I love Bebe but watching the Alabama and Lsu game last week 7 or 8 of the wr in that game are equal or better than Bebe and that is just 2 teams

Body by Lou was talking Monday about Jay Leman. Leman came in at 210 and was 247 at the start of his senior year.

Leman not only made the linebackers board for the 3 lifts, he was on the lineman's board for the three lifts.

Lou said you are allowed to work with each player 8 hours per week in the off season. They would literally have to take Leman by the shoulder and escort out of the building to keep from going over 8 hours.

I love Hansen but he is not in Leman class.

Where did you catch Lou talking about J? I would love to listen to this. J is an Illini legend in my eyes and he was the soul of the Rosebowl team. I’m also a little biased because he gave me a few pointers at Ron Zook’s football camp.

WDWS 11-11-19 podcast. I think scott beatty does it. I just checked, it is still available.

Some fascinating insight into how much we have improved. Only Green had made the three lifts necessary to get on the board in February, now we have eight.

Did you notice Rod Smith give a shout out to Lou during the post game MSU interview. These coaches are seeing what we saw 10 years ago.

Lou is certifiably nuts in his own lovable Illini way. His wife told him he has a BS in barbells.

I mean just look at how Isiah Gay looks physically this yr. With the good weight he’s added his best days are ahead of him, and I see him having a shot at the NFL. With that being said I’m going to get the wheels back on the recruiting thread track

To take this body by Lou appreciation thread one last thought farther, back before the season began Scott Beatty had on the starting DBs from the 2008 Rose Bowl team on. Kevin Mitchell and Justin Harrison are impressive young men.

What are they most excited about? Lou Hernandez. One of the said Hernandez is worth one to two victories per year. That's unreal. It was not the improvement physically that they liked, they said the key is what he does from the mental side. Check his twitter page, what is everywhere GYMR. Get your mind right.

With the beloved going to a bowl game... A hell of a lot more options open up. If we beat Iowa Lovie's going to be forced to choose between recruits/transfers for roster spots. That's a great problem to have, and in Lovie I trust!

Unfortunately, that’s not how this is playing out.

On the high school side wasn’t it a little late in the cycle to have a huge impact on the 2020 class? Could still see it elevate level of transfers that would consider Illinois. I would think much better shot at positively impacting 2021 class in a larger way. Of course it is a relative. Illinois isn’t all of a sudden going to jump into a top 15 class. But I would think some of those types of players we’ve been wringing our hands over as bad losses could turn into good gets next year — especially with a good start next year.

I’m curious what people think is the ceiling for the national rank of the 2021 class as well as future years after some sustained success on the field. I remember a class in the high 20s maybe 10 or 15 years ago. Is that achievable in future years?

Plainfield
For a 6 win team, we have gotten quite a bit of press due to the Wisconsin and MSU games. Heck, we were in the title of the front page article on ESPN Sunday. It sounds stupid, but I also feel like Lovie's beard has gotten us a lot of attention. I've seen several articles referring to it, and then inevitably making a reference to his time with the Bears. I think this is what Josh envisioned when he took this chance.
Winning was the rather important missing ingredient. Josh hired a highly respected and well known man in Lovie who carries himself with dignity and class and who’s NFL history sets him apart from the average college coach. All of that now resonates when coupled with wins (and dramatic spectacular wins at that!). Our two previous coaches (excluding Cubit) were punchlines.

This. The Smith FPC is huge too.
