Is the recruiting situation really as bad as it seems? You’d think coming off last season with our new facility we’d be doing really well on the recruiting trail. If it is as bad as it looks, we are going to fall off a major cliff after next season. Back to square one.
We do have 1 commit at this time when we usually have zero, but we are still at the familiar position near the bottom of the conference.

I’ve noticed plenty other BIG teams getting commits since this whole corona thing started so we can’t really use that as a excuse.

That makes a lot of sense.

I recall there was a lot of buzz for 2021 kids from our last big recruiting push. Has that fizzled out or do I just need to be patient?

It was overblown by a particular poster. We're in a really good spot with about 10 players. I think we'll see half of them commit before the BBQ if we push hard for their commits. We should because it's going to be a big class :illinois:

That's good news. When is the bbq scheduled again?

Other P5 offers between all four players combined: zero. 😬

A lot of these OL get offers during/after Spring showcases and Summer camps. That probably won't happen this year so if Illinois likes these guys then they shouldn't hesitate to push for them to commit. A number of OL that ended up at P5 schools did not have P5 offers before on campus camps started in June of last year.

We have had a lot of success with instate OL so I'm fine with Barlev and Kreutz. Not sure about Timmons but we have to land OL in this class and we offered him last October.

Moffitt seems like a stretch given his size and he would be a massive project. I'd be fine with him if he was projected to be a Safety but he's being recruited by Miles so they probably project him to be an OLB.

I don't really care about other power 5 offers when it comes to Olin's kid. I will take that pedigree and BA attitude any day of the week. Plus having Olin as an Illini supporter would be a nice asset. I would be shocked if he was not around the program A LOT

I would think but staff hasn't reacted. Worrisome.

Illinois football commit Solomon Buchanan, “staff treated me like family”

Illinois pulling in a talented recruit like Buchanan is huge for the program. Some of the programs that were pursuing this kid included the likes of Tennessee, Texas and Texas Tech, but the Illini managed to come out ahead

247Sports has Buchanan listed as a safety and the best JUCO safety in the country. But is he coming into the DI ranks as a safety?

“I am going in as a linebacker.”

Not sure we have a good situation on our hands. There is no confirmation from coaches.
It looks like he won't join the team until next spring. Is it possible that they can't comment because he hasn't signed yet? Wouldn't he sign this fall?

He is a 2021 juco kid. Miles Smith commented on it and everything but rivals and 247 have not reported it. Odd situation.

I don't have inside information, but the coaches stopped commenting on jucos and transfers last year after the oklahoma receiver stayed put (between him and Jeff Thomas).

Looks like a bunch of red shirt guys not that there is anything wrong with that Iowa has done that with the Oline for 20 years
For offensive line, that’s what everyone does. Except in freak situations, you are looking for people that can grow into the role
