He still needs to earn the scholarship, filling the scholarship now means you miss a shot at a midyear transfer should one become available. It will look smart only after he contributes.
Think there's still an Schollie, unless Samba returns.

So we need to recruit the older sisters of our key recruits early...

Seems like we thought this might give us an edge in the past with family and/or girlfriends. (Brunson is one if I remember correctly). Unfortunately, every time we think it gives us an edge, we find out the player hates his family or wants to dump his girlfriend.

This is Illinois.

Need to put Akron in context...link says he is currently ranked 131 in class &...
Like previously mentioned, the recruiting attention for Roper is starting to heat up. In addition to the Illini offer, he already has offers from teams like Wisconsin, Iowa and Akron. So, Illinois is relatively early on this kid’s recruitment. That is always a good thing.

Joel Goodson

respect my decision™
gets to the next level with the approval of high level trainers

Not just high level trainers, high level players, some of them pros. That Hutcherson's been playing/training with them speaks volumes, as scrubs are not invited to play regularly with a high level group. That those guys said "you're ready now" is meaningful. And then there's the response he received from high D1 programs when he got his name out there. Really good story and very illuminating. More bullish on him after reading that.

The fit with our roster is great too. He may be a little bummed he can't play this year, but next year is wide open and he gets a chance to acclimate. Needless to say, a year with Fletch will be significant too.

Interesting, and promising, article by Gary Parrish on CBSSports.com about Austin Hutcherson.

"And it's a bit overwhelming because of how fast it's happened," acknowledged Austin's father, Eric Hutcherson, who leads the NBA's Human Resources department.
Well, well, you sure hope AH and Alan Griffin both have positive experiences at Illinois. Their NBA-dads could prove to be very useful connections.

Saw tonight on Twitter that we made Ishmael Legett's top 6. Haven't heard much of anything about him. Anyone have any info? PG out of DC.

Good Find
Lower school offers, with some larger D-1 interest...Cuse, Maryland etc...6'2ish and 165pds...video reminds me of some Kiwane Garris type of player actually. Hope if we get him he turns into that guy!!! lol

Looks quick with good handles. Also seems to play bigger, wonder about his wing span.
