perhaps we ought to let the coach decide who he wants on the team
If Whitney comes here, does well, won't that help change some minds of in-state recruits and potentially increase our odds of being the first choice?
Sometimes you can take an athletic player and they can be great in spite of being a below average or just so-so shooter. I watched Jackson of indiana last night and that is exactly how he plays and was described by the a announcers. He even stated that after the game that he needs to improve as a shooter. Our own Kenny Battle was kind of like this scoring around the basket and doing things to score in ways other college players couldnt. He was a great college playerOne reason KW has been ineffective at the college level is his his shooting has been absolutely abysmal. He’s very athletic, but if you can’t shoot then you’re just a liability. I don’t know how he would fit into BU’s system, especially when we need to look for more shooters. I hope that BU will take him if he’s interested, only if he fits his system; not just to take him to appease fans.
Currently I’m hearing his interest in staying in college is low, kind of like a plan-b.
Honest question (yes I would take KW if he wanted to come) , how much would an extremely athletic 4 help us that cannot shot? How is his defense? I have been under the impression that a 4 that can stretch the defense is what is keeping us from the next level.
Just because someone is a 5 star ranking doesn't translate to a being a great college player.
Stop being foolish. We take Whitney if he wants to come. 6'6 athletic 5 star
since we have now apparently decided that the coach does not need to be fired, perhaps we ought to let the coach decide who he wants on the team
I was hoping for Whitney before he committed to Kentucky. I wonder where we would be with Brandon Weston if Whitney did commit. That Mac Irvin Fire pipeline is still pumping. Time will tell.I was hoping Whitney, but it doesn't sound good right now for Illinois.

The only evidence I need that we should still want Kahil Whitney at Illinois is what happened with Charles Matthews.
If you had to place a bet whether he transfers to another school, tests the NBA waters, or goes to play overseas, where would you put your money? One word describes the Whitney recruitment==Complex
Ryan Harrow was so nasty. Especially in high school. Having personally been crossed up by him.You can add Ryan Harrow and Kyle Wiltjer to the Charles Matthews team.

Ben Simmons would beg to differOne reason KW has been ineffective at the college level is his his shooting has been absolutely abysmal. I've thought about King as well, but it looks like he's a RS soph. Unless he graduates early, he'll be a sit one play one. That is a less than ideal take for how we want this program to trend, and for a kid that's shown half a season of really good success.Let's go apples to apples with this Ben Simmons comparison everyone is so hot on.
Ben Simmons '15-'16 LSU: True Shoting %: .600 Effective Field Goal %: .561
Khalil Whitney '19-'20 Kentucky: True Shoting %: .411 Effective Field Goal %: .403
Simmons went 199 of 297 at the free throw line for 67%
Whitney was 10 of 23 for 43.5%
These two things should not be compared as alike, they are quite different! Neither one may be a shooter, but one was an efficient scorer anyway.
This is not to say don't take Whitney (though i'd be inquiring about Kobe King). This is to say please stop bringing up Ben SImmons.
I want to see what else comes out from this. I have a feeling some sort of hardship waiver will be pursued to play right away.I've thought about King as well, but it looks like he's a RS soph. Yeah I have a feeling there's more than meets the eye here too. Don't hardship waivers normally come in after a kid is committed to playing somewhere? I supposed as a staff they'd have a decent idea whether or not they'd get it, but it seems like a heck of a crap shoot even knowing the entire story behind one.I want to see what else comes out from this.
