Illinois' Last 10 Games vs. B1G Opponents

#1
I'm in the midst of finals week for my MBA, and I REALLY needed to do something for "fun." :) I was looking up our last few results vs. Iowa, and I figured I would post all of these for everyone's enjoyment. A purpose of this, besides just being interesting, is to point out how happy we should all be with this current streak; we've suffered through enough recently, and it's so nice to see the team coming around. It should also give us even more passion cheering on the Illini to finally beat Iowa again! And oh yes, keep in mind ... wins over UW, PU, RU and MSU are the starts of winning streaks. :chief:

P.S. This is just Big Ten play ... so the Rutgers, Maryland and Nebraska series' don't count before they joined (if we played them).

We have been through a lot of torment, Illini Nation. This four game winning streak, in conference, has not happened since our 2001 Sugar Bowl season ... let that sink in. Oh yeah, and we are more than due for a win vs. the Hawkeyes!!!

GO ILLINI, and here is to a lot more Ws showing up in these lists over the next several years.

Wow, I know we’ve been pretty awful, but it hurts to see it spelled out like this. We don’t even have a winning record against NW since 09 (my freshman year) and we’ve beat Michigan four times since I’ve been alive...three of them were in Ann Arbor though, so #winning

There's a reason his nickname was Coach Death Penalty.

I'll say I didn't expect death to be quite so permanent...

The MBA studies must really suck! :)

But seriously, thanks for putting this snapshot together. I can handle (somewhat) those tragic records vs Michigan and Ohio State, but our records vs Iowa and Wisconsin just don't work for me. We used to own those guys!

As others pointed out, we hired CDP around the same time Wisconsin and Iowa decided to have real football programs. It's time to turn that tide.

I think the teams we should be comparing ourselves to are Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue and Michigan St. Those are the schools that should be our competition.

Since 1996, each of then has made at least one wildly successful coaching hire. We - to put it plainly - have not, although I still hold out hope that Smith can be that hire or at least put the program in a position to make that hire.

Wisconsin has moved itself into near-elite, where they’re just barely a tier below the Alabama’s and Ohio St’s of the world. Iowa and Michigan St both went on a several year run of being national powerhouses, even though they were not able sustain that the way Wisconsin has. The other schools have gone through several protracted runs of bowl appearances and competitiveness at the divisional level.

Please keep this going as “Last X Years” and change x to always get back to that 2007 Ohio State game
