Looking ahead to 2020-2021

Unless BBV, one of the two sit outs, or a grad transfer comes in that can succesfully guard the 4 position, I don't see us taking a major leap. Maybe another offseason for Giorgi will help too.

DMW is probably going to start, and given his late season offense, I'm all for it. BU was committed to playing him when he had 0 pts for like 2 months. If he's scoring at any clip, he's getting minutes. Frazier is a probably starter too, I foresee regression to the mean for him--at the very least. Assuming Kofi stays, he's your 5. So that leaves two starter spots open.

I'd love to see one of the above take that 4 spot. But I also dont think BU is afraid of starting 4 guards. Betting now, Griffin takes one of those spots. It's hard for new comers to crack rotations, and BU has shown a stubbornness to trot out the old guard more often than not (whether or not that's a net positive or negative is another conversation all together.) Assuming that's true, I don't think Curbelo or Miller crack the starting rotation, but I still think Miller has a better shot since his skillset is more desired. He might be next year's Griffin, and Curbelo next years Feliz.

Not having freshman instantly start is a good thing. This team is deeper and more talented than we've had in almost 15 years. Good problems ahead determining PT.
Miller is going to start. You can take that to the bank. I agree with Trent still around Curbelo is next year's Feliz, which is fine. He'll get tons of tick in any case.

Sounds like he is leaving because he wants to be a pro and that is what he and his family plan to do, basically.
This mock has him going #36 to Washington, just after Lamar Stevens.http://www.nbadraftroom.com/p/2020-2nd-round.html

The intriguing thing about Underwood in these first few years is his growth as a coach and that his teams get better as the season goes along. There are several ways to win games. Toughness and effort will always be a part of Underwood’s teams. He‘s proven this year that he’s very capable of figuring out how to make the most of each player’s talent within the team’s dynamic. I’m excited for Next year!

Yeah. But he didn’t get enough minutes for Tevian and DMW got too many minutes. ☺

I'm ready to see Kofi as a Sophomore with a year of Antigua working with him. We may be talking Big Ten Player of the Year as long as the guys can get him the ball in the right spot.
A consistent 15 ft jumper would help immensely -- so that he doesn't have to play with his back to the basket. He then jumps to Garza-level in 21-22 if he can extend it to 3-point territory.

Not sure he is the type (build-and game) that needs to extend to 3 area to jump to that category for scouts. I would think all he needs to do is get better on quicker/decisive moves. Learn to over power players with authority. He is tentative at times/still learning and unsure of feet and hands together when making plays. When he gets comfortable and grasps that he can probably do whatever he wants if he just decides to do it right away, then watch out.

Waukegan
Though he still does a twice weekly segment (Mondays and Fridays) on WAND in Decatur.
I believe (and I am relying on my memory which is usually not a good thing) that when Tupper retired he said he was going to do videos occasionally called "Riding Shotgun with Mark Tupper". He would drive around in his truck talking sports. That may be to what the original poster, Elgin7680, may have been referring. I think one just has to do a search for that title. Apparently, the videos have been pretty sporadic and now I think he has stopped because of Covid 19.

A consistent 15 foot jumper would be huge. It should be one of the major areas he works on. If he does that, the sky is the limit for him.

Saw a couple of these early predictions and neither of them had Illini in top 30. I know I drink the orange kool aid but damn, I think we are going to bee pretty darn good next year. ????

I think the outside looking in on the top 25 to start next year is right assuming Ayo leaves. Our only proven returning guard is Trent and college basketball is a guards game. Having curbelo and miller coming in are great, but not being top 10 recruits, they’re gonna have to prove it as opposed to being assumed contributors/difference makers.

I think record wise it will look similar to last year. Start slow, adjust, begin to gel, go on a nice run. Hopefully he just far enough off the bubble. I think we’re looking at about a 10 seed right now.

All this is assuming we don’t land an instant impact guard in the transfer portal.

If Curbelo can play defense, I don't think Trent is a lock for a starting spot after all Curbelo will be the only pure PG on the roster

You can't be serious??!! I mean, I guess all positions are in flux because you want the best to play, but you saying Trent is at risk of losing his starting spot is in my mind...crazy!! The dude is a senior who has started 3 years now in the B1G. Has proven himself time and time again. He is a top defender, can shoot, makes good decisions with the ball, and has experience. That is leagues above any top freshman coming in other than say a Zion or Anthony Davis type player. I do think that Curbelo is the most likely freshman to play starter minutes/role which is very counter to many who believe Miller is a lock. I think that with Curbelo being able to break down the defense, lead a team, and find the right passing lanes to Kofi...his play with Kofi will be key to him breaking into the starting line-up. Miller is good, but I'm not yet convinced he plays a starter role...yet. Perhaps others have watched him over and over...but Curbelo's skills are more quickly transferable to the next level vs. Miller.

But let's be clear...Trent is going to start and is at no risk of not. If curbelo does impress, he'll displace Trent as the 1 and move trent over to more of a 2 guard position...but BU is not going to get Trent out of the starting line-up.

If Ayo leaves i think Trent and Curbelo both start if not both play close to 30 min per game
