Well, he's been running miles for a while, it seems. So hopefully his conditioning is fairly good.
It's probably as good as it can be, but game shape is a lot different than distance running. Wish we had another couple of weeks before Maui to work him in. Maybe it wouldn't matter that much in terms of W/L's, but could mean a lot as far as the team progression.

I mean, why not? Sure, probably not Thursday, but this is the equivalent of them saying he's medically 100% for a game. I could easily see him getting a few minutes in Maui with this news.

Now, if we want to talk about significant 10mins+, sure it's gonna take him time to get fully up to speed.
Man, if he comes back now that would be crazy and impressive. He’s only like 7 months removed from ACL surgery.

BU said AD had to continue to work on conditioning...sounds like Fletch has been ahead of that. I think AD is the Xfactor in our success this year. i would expect his early use will be dictated by need....maybe not big need for Evansville.

Is it Thursday yet? Yesterday's games have whetted my appetite for more basketball.

I’m excited especially if Adonis is getting close. May have a chance to be a decent team if he can contribute, Rebound, play defense this year and maybe??? Make the postseason.

Pruman, that is cool you are from McLeansboro. I'm from Carmi, and know a lot of people from there. Actually went to the Sloan-Lee-Reed basketball camp years ago. I have met and talked with Jerry a few times several years ago at his farm there when I was doing some grain bin work for him and my high school basketball coach was Brad Lee

Evansville alum and fan here. My mom is from McLeansboro (a few years ahead of Jerry Sloan) and my dad is from Dahlgren. Stopped by your board to check on this year’s Illini and to see what the deal is with BTN+.

Lots of excitement in Evansville about Walter McCarty but I sure wish we were playing you next year. Our best players are probably Deandre Williams (ruled ineligible this year, has to sit a year) and Kansas transfer Sam Cunliffe, also sitting this year. Transfer Art Labinowicz would also likely start if eligible this year. And word is that our only real inside presence, Dainius Chatkevicius, is suspended for breaking team rules for first 3 games.

We will play a completely different style than with Marty Simmons - faster paced, more free flowing and lots of 3’s. But we got beat on the boards in our exhibition against a D2 team - and that was with our big guy.

Lots of new faces and unknowns for both teams, but you should be able to dominate inside. We are picked to finish last in the MVC, but have high hopes for the future. Good luck on the season- except for tomorrow!

My father-in-law is a Dahlgren native. Not many of those around! Used to live in Albion myself and remember McCarty as an Evansville Harrison grad before his UK and NBA days, correct?

Yes, McCarty is a Harrison grad. After playing for the Celtics, he coached with Rick Pitino a couple of years at Louisville and then was an assistant with Brad Stevens at Boston. One of his assistants is Todd Lickliter, former Butler and Iowa coach. A great coahcing staff and a lot of Butler influence.

No, not many people are from Dahlgren! My dad graduated from Dahlgren High School (which has been closed for years and years) and at 5'8" was the starting center on the basketball team. :)

Just a win....after seeing Baylor knocked off by Tx Southern and LA Tech knock off Wich State, can't assume anything.
If we dont win by at least 10 the sky is falling group will be in full force! Coach will be criticized to the fullest extent and every miniscule mistake the kids make will be signs of Underwood being a failure and in over his head.

Aww man, Todd Lickliter. That's a name from the past for me! He was coach at Iowa when I was in Krush. I remember those Iowa teams being pretty bad, but as an assistant I think he's a great piece for your staff. I try to keep up with MVC as much as possible, so I'm sure I'll catch a game or 2 on TV or perhaps in person that you guys are a part of. I wish you guys luck too, but like you said not tomorrow night :)

Yes, I remember Delafield. Wow. I didn't know that Delafield ever had a grocery!

I live in Iowa now. Lickliter was a great coach at Butler but he never recruited Big 10 players or really made the adjustment to playing in the Big 10. (And Butler was in the Horizon League back then.) His Iowa teams were bad and he is not remembered well by the Hawkeyes. But he was a great hire for us.

I would think you will see Adonis at the earliest a game or 2 before B1G season....not any earlier based on how badly we do need him...Giorgi should be able to take care of the light work...Mississippi Valley would be my guess as a primer for Notre Dame?

Dude that's awesome about Walter. Hadn't realized that hire had happened. And what a great staff. You guys could become a Northern Iowa type of program. That's exciting. I also know he didn't get a ton of run but I really like Cunliffe and think he could be a really good alpha dog for your team next year.

I always get a kick out of the spread in game 1 of a college basketball season. What's the data based on?

The funny thing is that somehow Vegas will work it's magic and Evansville will get a bunny at the end of the game making the final Illinois 80-67.

I despise gambling, but I do it anyway.

The spread is always based on where the money goes. Vegas wants 50/50 split. So, if more betting on IL, the line goes to 15. More on the Aces, 13.

The line is ALWAYS based on the action.

Yeah, but how do they set the initial odds for Game 1?

Oh. I understand the question better. It’s still about the money. They have people who bet as soon as the schedule comes out (albeit not very many).

People make these early bets to get a line that they like. So, Vegas adjusts early. So, it’s a moving target from the minute the schedule comes out.

This is how book makers get most of their money (early lines they feel are lopsided).

Once upon a time, there weren't many reputable sportsbooks out there. So there was a lot more consistency from one sportsbook to the next. But today, there are so many of them that it's not uncommon for betting lines to differ from one sportsbook to the next. One might be offering the Patriots -1 in Super XLIX, while another has the game as a pick 'em and another has the Seahawks -1. But there's quite a bit of copycatting that goes on within the sports gambling industry. So while there are some differences from sportsbook to sportsbook, there's not as many as you'd think and sportsbooks routinely keep an eye on other sportsbook in order to make sure that their lines aren't too different from all the rest.

To think like an oddsmaker, though, you need to first know how he sets his numbers. The initial line, also known as an “overnight line” or “opening line,” is an educated guess of a starting point that oddsmakers believe will get equal action from bettors on both sides. Oddsmakers are often the brightest minds in the sportsbook and know all about the public perception of teams along with key statistics bettors use to make their picks.

So, essentially, they make an initial guess.

Hey IlliniGman. I played frosh-soph basketball at Carmi in 66 and 67. My head coach was David Lee who played with Jerry Sloan on the Evansville Purple Aces. Sloan would occasionally visit our practices. What year did you graduate Carmi?

That's not true. To an extent they'll move a line but if 100% of the money is coming on one team covering they're not going to make a crazy line move. Last weekend Vegas had a top 10 worst weekend. That was due to the fact that almost every NFL favorite won, favorites almost always have a bigger side of the action. This past weekend they paid out over 3/4 winning side spread tickets, so definitely not 50/50.

Interesting. That is Vegas screwing up. Their money is the vig.

I was in class of 95. I did meet David Lee though. He came to a couple of our practices lol. I believe he is cousins with Brad, who was my coach
