Not sure if I have read yet - is Clinkscale going to be DB back at Cincinnati? Pay difference?

We could do a lot worse.

One other name I've heard from two different people...Terrell Buckley. CB coach at Akron.

I would think this guy would have some connections in FL as a recruter and be able to sell his NFL experience in aiding kids to get to the next level. I think this would be a solid choice.

I loved him when he played for the Dolphins. At least he has a lot of NFL experience. If it's the same guy I'm thinking of.

Terrell Buckley certainly is a known figure............should be a decent recruiter in the deep south and you would think in Ohio as well ...........you wonder what his connection, if any, is to Beckman or anyone on the staff.

He has only been at Akron for one year and was not a recruiting coach at Florida State (grad asst in various roles). Maybe Buckley can develop recruiting connections in time, but he isn't very experienced at this point.

Generally speaking, alumni status and a famous name count for far less in recruiting than most fans think. It is all about building relationships, something that takes both a natural ability and experience.

I was hoping we would be hearing some solid rumors on a new CB coach/recruiter by this point....

if we had someone lined up for his job, you would think we would by now. This just about means Clinkscales departure was a surprise to TB.

I thought everyone pretty much knew Clink leaving was a surprise to Beckman?

It seems it might have been in light of the report that one of his motivations for the move was his ailing father.

We suspected as much, but how things have developed adds credence to that hypothesis.

I dont really believe that too much. 9 outta 10 times those stories are just used as cover. Im not saying he doesnt want to be near his father, but that in itself was most likely not the main reason.

And no one knows for sure if this was a surprise to Beckman or not. But the fact we dont have a replacement named yet is 99% proof it was.

Lets just hope the new DB coach is even better at coaching and recruiting than Clinkscale was.

There is a common denominator in this whole mess...Just sayin

Talked to a football kid from Cincy today that met Clinksdale over the week and he said "MAC Football at its finest" in Champaign... WTF

Great move for Clinks, imo

Well hopefully that kid gets knocked on his ass when we play them this up coming season. Cinci is a power house exactly either. They play in the always terrible big east... That might be a step bellow the MAC.

Just messing around. I have no idea what kind of friendship those two have or not.

But even a good friendship between them doesn't mean that Clink may not be feeling that way after how bad last season went.

Because Clink has a lot of high major coaching experience from which to judge? Before Illinois he spent three years in the MAC and prior to that many years at Ashland. And for what it is worth, Clink (the guy that Campbell didn't want at Toledo and was the last guy hired at Illinois) was replaced by a coach with far more high-major coaching experience.

I doubt that Clink would deliberately burn his bridges. I doubt that he said what Chiefbird15 implied, an poorly worded rumor that we are now reading 3rd-hand at best from someone with a serious ax to grind.
