Big Ten Tournament Champions

Two nets down, two to go? Illinois ground out victories against Northwestern, Minnesota, and Wisconsin at the United Center to win their second Big Ten Tournament championship in three years. The Illini's offense was dull as a spoon—they averaged 62 points on 39.8% shooting (29.0% on three-pointers) for the weekend—but their defense was quite stingy. James Augustine was the tournament MVP. Beyond the fray on the court there was sadness as Bruce Weber's mother passed away Friday evening after the Northwestern game. Coach Weber honored her by staying on the sidelines for the duration of the weekend. Filed under: Illini Basketball
