Hoosiers Defeat Illini
January 17, 2006 11:22 PM
Illinois' gutty comeback charge against Indiana fell one or two plays short tonight, and the Hoosiers escaped with victory on their home floor 62-60. Marco Killingsworth was a scoring machine down low, pacing IU with 23 points. Late in the 2nd half when all seemed hopeless and Indiana rolling with a 55-40 lead, the Illini ground out a 12-0 run to make it close. With under 30 seconds left both James Augustine and Dee Brown could not convert on shots that would have tied it, and Rich McBride was way off on a last-second half-court heave.
Illini individual highlights: Shaun Pruitt had a career game with 17, Brian Randle had 15, Dee Brown dished 11 assists, and Chester Frazier was a huge spark even after being temporarily floored by a blind screen. Illini lowlights: gave up 18-0 run in 1st half, and converted only 8 of 16 FTs.
