The Elusive Complete Game

The story remains the same for Illinois football. 1) The Illini are big underdogs on the road in a big hostile stadium. 2) The Illini outplay their opponent and enjoy a nice halftime lead. 3) The Illini implode with mistakes in the 2nd half and loss a close one. Saturday's opponent was Wisconsin and, unlike the Penn St. game, UI turned trips to the red zone into TDs. In the 2nd quarter Illinois had a 21-3 lead and were up 24-10 at the half, before going downhill in the 2nd half for a 30-24 loss.

The month of October has brought 4 of the more frustrating/aggravating/heartbreaking contests one can imagine. The flashes of football excellence and excitement shown by this young team has yet to manifest as a complete game. When and if the Illini figure out how to finish games like they start them, more wins will come, and it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to think that they could stay with a team like Ohio St. Filed under: Illini Football, Wisconsin Badgers
