T'ed Up

In their first meeting since the epic comeback in the 2005 Regional Finals, Arizona beat Illinois 84-72 Saturday afternoon in the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge in Phoenix. The Illini had their best start of the season, shooting 55% and leading by as much as 16 in the 1st half. The talented Wildcats surged to erase the deficit in the 2nd half. Illinois' chances were further compounded by foul trouble—three players had 4 fouls and two fouled out. The Illini were at the wrong end of a huge foul (28-12) and free throw (37-9) disparity, which led to Bruce Weber to earn a technical foul in the 2nd half after two apparent fouls on Warren Carter were not called. Carter finished with a career-high 24 points. Filed under: Arizona Wildcats, Illini Basketball
