Though earlier indicators caused some of us to take Smith's return for granted, Weber never did.
The Illini coach responded carefully, as though he was sitting on a bombshell. Weber might have heard some of the same rumors that reached the desk of Guenther, who said Tuesday:
"Jamar had come a long way, but I was sensing slippage in recent weeks. Alcohol is a devil that stays with you for a lifetime."
