What a difference 2 years make: A look back at the 2006 Illini vs EIU game
September 5, 2008 3:21 PM
On September 2, 2006, Illinois won its season-opener against Eastern Illinois
42-17. So, oh so much has changed to the Illinois football program and Memorial Stadium since. A look back in time with 10 photos:
The Saints' Pierre Thomas was a senior.
Freshman Juice Williams went 2-4 for 25 yards in his first game as an Illini.
There were 45,444 in attendance, and 23,000+ empty seats.
The only thing in the north end zone...
...was the scoreboard and the Grabowski / Howard / Grange / Butkus signs.
Illinois had the Chief.
The West Side...
...sported the 1960s edition press box.
The East Side was home to the student section.
And finally, the south Horseshoe was home to the Marching Illini.
