Fresno St drama: Zook unhappy with home-and-home

Fresno St - Illinois drama
Update: Here's Tate on the radio this morning talking about Zook and the Fresno St game, fast forward to 33:00. The biggest issue is the game at Fresno in 2010. Since we're still playing Missouri in St Louis that season we'd be stuck with 6 home games, which is not good. Reading between the lines sounds like Zook was super-pissed about it, and hopes that the 2010 game can be moved around to a season that would work for Illinois to host 7 home games; but it sounds like the series and dates are a done deal at this point.

I think it is ill advised for Illinois to play Fresno State. We will be flying over dozens of universities that we could play on the way to the West Coast. Additionally, it seems to me that we could line up non-conference against teams close enough for our fans to attend. The goal should be to get seven home games whenever possible. Fans who have invested big bucks to rent suites should not be limited to six games.

Why in the world would Illinois want to play Fresno State home-and-home? This has trap written all over it.

But you have to wonder why a closer opponent wasn't considered. Wasn't Kentucky or Kansas or Vanderbilt open? Fresno State is a BCS-level opponent, but isn't in a BCS league.
