Michigan Week

Michigan
A few fun facts about the upcoming Illinois-Michigan game:
  • Saturday's contest will pit the Big Ten's worst scoring offense (Michigan) against the worst scoring defense (Illinois).
  • Digging deeper, Michigan's offense ranks 10th or 11th in the following Big Ten offensive categories: passing, rushing, total yards, first downs, pass efficiency, red zone offense, 3rd down conversions, and time of possession. Despite all that, they have given up only 3 sacks all year.
  • Michigan is coming off a crazy 27-25 comeback victory against Wisconsin. The Badgers were up 19-0 at the half and dominating everything, period. In the 2nd half the Wolverines kept hanging around, hanging around, the offense began to move the ball, the defense picked up a pick-6, and Wisconsin screwed up their formation on a converted 2-pt conversion to tie the game in the final minute.
  • Juice Williams continues to lead the Big Ten in total offense (297 yd/g). Daniel Dufrene is 6th in rushing (99 yd/g), and Arrelious Benn is 4th in receptions (4.75/g).
  • The Wolverines are helmed by 6-6 redshirt freshman Steven Threet. Threet was dismal in the 1st half against Wisconsin, the offense generated only 21 yards. Now, after the mad comeback, the QB's confidence is soaring.
  • Another week, another huge hostile crowd. This is the first time, going from Beaver Stadium to Michigan Stadium, that Illinois has played back-to-back contests in front of 100,000+ crowds.
  • Michigan Stadium is currently undergoing a $220M+ renovation, set to be completed in time for the 2010 season.
