NCAA moves to eliminate future basketball practice events

Illinois
Men's basketball teams, such as Illinois, Kentucky, Marshall and West Virginia, will get a head-start on practices with huge events planned for this weekend, a week ahead of the season's official start date.

But the NCAA is expected to quash the possibility of teams doing the same in the future. David Berst, vice president for Division I, said Monday that the NCAA Board of Directors is expected to narrow the definition of preseason practice to exclude public events in emergency legislation Oct. 29.
