McCamey helps Illini get some swagger back

And where do you go when times get rough? Home, of course, and McCamey had 19 points, six assists and four rebounds in Illinois' 76-42 thrashing of Georgia.

The Westchester St. Joseph product said he was motivated by two things: playing in his hometown and erasing the sour feeling of a last-second loss in their previous game. It was McCamey who took the heat - from coaches and fans - after Illinois failed to get off a final shot in a 76-74 loss to Clemson on Tuesday.

"We went home and watched the end of the game that night," said Dominique Keller, McCamey's next-door neighbor. "Meechie felt terrible. He took it harder than anybody."

Victorious Illini look right on schedule

''Every nonconference game is an NCAA game; you're trying to gear up your resume,'' coach Bruce Weber said. ''And then, if you can be solid in the conference, you have a chance to get a tournament bid. We put ourselves in a big bind last year and never could recover. I hate to even say it, but you learn by losing to Tennessee State. I don't want to keep reminding them, but we can't let it happen again.''
