These Illini are officially for real

This will be remembered as Illinois' first road win in 24 tries against a Top 10 team since the Flyin' Illini routed Michigan late in the 1989 season.
Whether Purdue deserves Top 10 ranking remains a question. Just as Illinois is downgraded because of last season, the Boilermakers get a lot of credit because of their stunning rise a year ago. They haven't really played like a Top 10 team, have been frequently outrebounded and lost to Oklahoma and Duke, the latter in a blowout.
Regardless of rankings, this was a major step forward for Illinois. This was hand-to-hand combat, and the UI displayed poise and toughness.
