I have a list of 400 to 500 players who have played for me, and of course you can't stay in touch with all of them ... but we do as good a job as we can through correspondence and in meeting them from time to time. We are certainly looking forward to the reunion of the 1983-84 team Saturday at the Assembly Hall.

After a few years at Illinois, Bob [Knight] and I had a good relationship. I had played him when I was at New Mexico State. The tension is not nearly like it was, and we get along really well.

...

When I see Bruce Pearl, I am reminded of his "outstanding ability" to recruit players.

No, I don't dislike the people in Iowa, only the coaching staff I had to go against. I don't think [Tom] Davis and I ever shook hands after we had our problems.

...

The one game I'll always remember was the four-overtime game against Michigan. [Bruce] Douglas played the entire 60 minutes. If we had to go to a fifth overtime, I don't think I would have made it. It was a great win for us in 1984, the year we shared the Big Ten championship.

...

[The current] team reminds me of the 1995-96 team at Illinois, my last team. The Illini this year use an open post, and move all five in motion. That's exactly what we used that year with Jerry Gee our postman at 6-7. We flashed people into the pivot. That's how we beat Duke down there with [Kiwane] Garris, [Richard] Keene and [Jerry] Hester.
