It was the lowest scoring game in Division I basketball since Dec. 14 of 2005 when Monmouth beat Princeton 41-21.

Illinois shot just 30 percent for the game (15 of 50) and still outshot Penn State (13 of 46, 28.3 percent). But Penn State won the game at the free throw line by making 9 of 11 while the Illini set a school record by not attempting a single free throw.

The game broke Assembly Hall records for lowest winning score (38, previously 51 by Michigan State on Jan. 19, 1999 and Ohio State on Jan. 14, 1982); fewest combined points (71, previously 85 in a 48-37 Illini victory over Northwestern on Feb. 18, 2007); worst combined field goal accuracy (.292, previously .298 on Jan. 6, 2007, Illinois vs. Ohio State); and fewest points scored by Illinois (33, previously 44 on Jan. 6, 2007 and Feb. 18, 1982).
