Illini baseball tops #1 LSU 3-1 in Baton Rouge

Illinois (6-1) used impressive pitching and ninth-inning dramatics to defeat No. 1 LSU, 3-1, at the Tigers' brand-new Alex Box Stadium. With one on, two outs and the game tied 1-1 in the ninth, catcher Aaron Johnson wasted no time becoming the hero, launching a first-pitch slider into the video scoreboard above the wall in left center, which quieted the 10,246 sell-out crowd. The victory ended LSU's (9-1) 25-game regular season winning streak and marks the first time Illinois has beaten a top-ranked team since a 7-4 win over then-No. 1 Miami on March 5, 1995.
