Illini look to prove regular season no fluke

It took more than four months to rebuild a reputation trashed by a school-record 19 losses last season, so the Illinois basketball team doesn't want to spoil it now.

Illinois returned to the top 25 for the first time in three seasons and made the biggest leap of any team in the Big Ten Tournament-- skyrocketing from the No. 10 seed a year ago. Yet as the No. 2 seed Illini (23-8 overall, 11-7 in the Big Ten) prepare for a conference tournament quarterfinal game Friday (5:30 p.m., BTN) at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis against the winner of No. 7 Michigan (19-12, 9-9) and No. 10 Iowa (15-16, 5-13), they enter postseason play with their first two-game losing streak.
