Tom Izzo's championship squad of erratic shooters, who hoped to ride powerhouse rebounding into a No. 1 NCAA seed, attempted 24 more field goals (71 to 47) than Ohio State but trailed by 17 before closing to 82-70. The Spartans' stern defense took a spanking.
And Illinois, wearing orange against Purdue's black in a Halloween-like debacle, revisited the embarrassments suffered at Minnesota (36 points) and against Penn State at home (33).
